Introduction
Respect refers to the positive action or the high esteem held upon somebody or something which is considered very important. The high admiration held on such a person or a thing primarily roots form the fact that it has unique qualities that impress the person who admires it. Also, the person who respects such a person or a thing might be having the inner yearn of the unique abilities and qualities possessed by them, such that their nature positively makes the person hold it in high esteem. The person or thing which is respected can also be posting some performances on certain areas of work, knowledge, skills, or occupation that are exemplary. For such respect to persisting, there is need by the person or the thing to continue posting the admirable qualities, performances, or abilities lest it is outdone by another component of similar type which will then be held in high esteem instead. An example of the areas where respect is manifested is in the military, where there are the ranks of authorities which represent the military leadership. The military leadership is composed of a chain of authorities which issue orders and commands to the subordinates to achieve particular preset goals and objectives in the line of defense. Thus, the subordinates are supposed to act as per the directions from the authorities for the betterment of the collective responsibility bestowed to the military. The meaning of the respect to the military leadership can be seen where the subordinates perform what they have been assigned to do, responsibly, on time, and to the best quality as exhausted in the following paragraphs.
First, there is a need by the military subordinates to do what their respective seniors have assigned them, and not do other things instead. In this regard, it can be understood that there is various chain of commands existing in the military arena. Such authorities have divided their responsibilities variously such that the execution of all of them by different subgroups in the military, which are under their leadership, cumulatively leads to the achievement of the entire unit composed of the goals, aims, and missions of the military. Thus, it turns out that the leaders of different military groups also act under their respective bosses, where the chain of command goes upward up to the general leadership at the helm of the military organization at hand. Therefore, when the different military leaders in their respective capacities command the subordinates at the lower ranks to do whatever is the dictate of the command, it is wise for the subordinates to execute them precisely and avoid diversion from their duties with lame excuses, since it will show the extent of their respect to the authorities. In the middle ranks of the military leadership, some subordinates of the bosses above them can also be the bosses of the subordinates below them. Thus, the performance of the duties by the subordinates in the military, as per the commands of their bosses, constitutes respect and admiration of the authorities possessed by the military leaders in various ranks.
Besides, there is the need by the military individuals to perform their duties responsibly as their bosses have instructed them. In this regard, it can be understood that the individuals in the military have been recruited and assigned various positions basing on their qualifications as well as their dreams to serve in the said positions in the military, and not in other organizations outside the military. More so, it can be understood that the selected military officers, in their respective capacities, have been entrusted with the positions where they can have gotten the chances to serve over many potential individuals who could have served in the same positions had it not for the missing opportunity to join the military. In a nutshell, the tasks performed by various military officers have been endowed a facilitated by the leaderships in their various jurisdictions. The fact that the military officer person their specific duties in various niches constitutes respect to the military leadership. It serves to show that one is responsible and is grateful to serve in the position facilitated by the authorities above them. Also, it shows that one holds the terms and conditions of the military service, which is under the jurisdiction of the military leadership, in high esteem. Hence, the performance of the tasks as stipulated by the authorities shows the existing immense extent of leadership to the military.
Moreover, there is the need for the military officers to perform the duties they have been assigned quite perfectly, and on time, which also serve to show the existence of respect to the military leadership. In this case, it turns out that as the military leaders in their various capacities issue orders and commands to their subordinates, they expect them to be done in the optimal way possible, and in or on time. It will impress the military leadership and will go a long way in raising their confidence because their commands are being held with due regard form the junior military officers. However, when the juniors fail to adhere to the terms of service, such that they execute the assignments late or even deliver poor quality services to the military leaders, there will be a semblance of the fact that they are not willing to act as per the instructions, and finally that they do not hold their leaders in high esteem. Thus, it can be concluded that when the military duties are delivered in the right quality in time, there is a show of respect to the military leader in position.
There is various importance of respect, and more particularly to the military leadership for this matter. The diverse importance of respect to the military leadership also has varied meanings to me in the individual capacity. There are examples of the situations where the importance of respect are manifested. They are the fact that there is the creation of a favorable environment, the promotion of workplace cooperation, and the promotion of the efficiency in the delivery of various services form the conduction of tasks. There is also the reduction of the stressful conditions, the improvement of the knowledge sharing, as well as the promotion of the entire organizational attainment of the set goals and objectives. The above importance of respect as well as what they mean to me, are well brought out below.
It can be observed that respect brings about the formation of a fair working environment. An example can be seen in the case of the military environment in which there is respect between the subordinates and the military leaders. The subordinates are obliged to respect the directives and commands of their leaders in the military. In this regard, since the bosses will, in the end, observe that the juniors are keen to respect every command wedged on them in the delegation of the day to day military missions and activities, there shall sprout a semblance of satisfaction from them, where they will be proud of the workforce which works under them. They will end up discharging their duties to the optimal levels by the terms and conditions of service alongside the set missions and visions of the organization, which will be received and rightfully acted upon by the staff on the other end. Also, since there is a proper holding in high esteem of the ones in authorities, the subordinate military staff will be obeying their commands, hence the rightful delegation of duties. There results in a position where both the military leadership and their juniors are in the correct terms with one another and each of the two groups appreciating the roles which they have been bestowed by the stakeholders to take part in. Such is thus the existence of a fair working environment for all the military staff, both in their capacities and collectively in the military organization concerned. Since it is always the aim of every organization to foster the fair working environment for all the staff, the forging of such an environment in the military organization as a result of respect shows that respect is quite significant in the promotion of the much-desired working environment in the military organization, hence its importance. To me, as an individual, it means that for a favorable workplace environment to be obtained, there is a need to respect the people in authority.
Besides, there is the factor of respect bringing about the promotion of the cooperation between the organizational stakeholders, which increases the efficiency of the individual staff in the delivery of various services from the tasks assigned. In the case, it can be seen in the situation of the military environment, where there are the military leaders as well as the subordinate staff working in various capacities to achieve the common organizational goals enshrined in its mission, vision, and objectives. It turns out that there is the junior staff working under various leaders, and having the respective responsibilities of discharging duties as per the terms and conditions of service. The fact that the junior staff are responsive and are willing to execute any tasks assigned by the leadership shows that they respect them based on the authorities they have over them. On the other hand, the leadership will be more willing to hear any suggestions from the junior staff regarding the processes of work in the organization such results in the generation if cooperation between them. The junior staff will, in the long run, aid the senior staff in delivering the quality services of the tasks assigned in the timely version possible, while the leadership responds by assigning the tasks favorable to all the employees as per their areas of specialization. Such is the required cooperation that is also the aim of any functional organization, which will bring about the combined effort, forged similar understanding as well as the offsetting of any workplace differences. It also fosters the working on the same goals in different units, as well as the rallying to obtain the optimal results for the benefit of raising the achievements of the organization in the stipulated time frames. The military leadership will, in the process, be willing to give their level best to the enable the smooth running of various tasks in the organization, while the staff will utilize the available resources in the collective bid to achieve the desired results. Such are the benefits of respect existing in the workplace between the leadership as well as the subordinate staff. In my capacity, the benefit of respect in forging cooperation between all the stakeholders in the military organization that will in the result in the collective effort to raise the entire productivity of the organization means that it is a vital undertaking to respect one another within the organization since it is beneficial in various ways.
Finally, there is the benefit of respect in the workplace, and more specifically the military organization, since it brings about the reduction of stress levels in various key stakeholders as well as raising the sharing of knowledge by them. In this case, it turns out that the entire organization is mainly made up of the staff serving different purposes, where there are those in the leadership positions and the technical staff in different dockets discharging varied tasks under specific workplace niches. The fact that the subordinate staff is submissive to the orders and commands of the military leadership in various ranks shows that they value authorities, hence respecting them. Thus, where there is the environment in which the junior staff delegate duties assigned by the leaders, there results in harmony and mutual coexistence between the two groups, since they are interdependent and they need to work together for a common purpose.
