There is a huge funeral for Miss Emily Grieson. No one ever has been to her house for a period of 10 years, except for her servant. She inhabited an old house which initially used to be one of the best houses around. According to (Faulkner, William, 1990), the town was indebted to Griesons family and created a special relationship between them and Miss Grieson , apparently this introduced a hereditary obligation that saw Emily privileged not to pay bills since 1894 although the newer generation werent happy with such an arrangement and thus frequently visited Miss Emily with an attempt of making her pay up debts (Polk, et al, 2000) Miss Emily refused to acknowledge that the old arrangement could no longer be in place and absolutely refused to pay since she usually referred them to Colonel Sartoris who had been dead for a period of ten years.

Previously, the tax collecting townspeople had a strange encounter with Miss Emily since there emanated a bad odor at her place. This happened ten years after her father had demised a short time after her lover disappeared from her life. The stink grew stronger and complaints were made, though the authorities had no intent of confronting Miss Emily. Thus the authorities used to sprinkling lime round her house and eventually the smell faded. After Emilys father death, everybody felt sorry for her since all that was left was the house without any money. Upon her fathers demise, she was in denial for three days. Nobody thought she was crazy then (Faulkner, William, 1990) but assumed Emily didnt want to let go her dad.

Later on, Emily begins dating Homer Barron who was then in town working on a sidewalk building project. Homer is a low class guy, a Yankee who seems like life of the party guy. The town dwellers did not like such a relationship and brought Emilys Alabama cousins to town to stop the affair (Polk, et al, 2000). On one particular day, Emily is seen purchasing arsenic at the drugstore, When she opened the package at home there was written on the box, under the skull and bones: 'For rats and the whole town then thinks she is in the process of committing suicide. Whenever she purchases a bunch of mens items, they think that Emily and Homer are about to get married. Homer leaves tow, and then Emilys cousins too leave town, and later Homer returns.

Homer is last seen entering Miss Emilys house. Emily rarely leaves her apartment after that, except for a period of six years when she gives painting lessons. Her hair turns grey; she gains weight and eventually dies in a downstairs bedroom that was unoccupied for a period of years. According to (Faulkner, William, 1990) Emily is viewed as a fallen monument. Due to curiosity the towns women come to the funeral. At Emilys funeral, Tobe whos Emilys servant welcomes the town women and departs forever. After Emilys burial, the townspeople breaks into a room that had been unoccupied for forty years. They find Homer barons corpse, roting in bed. Next to Homer, they find an indentation of a head, and there, in the indentation, a "long strand of iron-gray hair".

A rose family is a story that narrates the extremes of isolation, indicating the manner in which human become isolated by past, families, tradition and personal actions and sets. This story is against such isolations and against all those who isolate others.
