This is an initiative by Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) on the Future of Nursing and the Institute of Medicine (IOM). They have convened a committee of experts in the medicine field who are tasked with identifying the potential for increasing access to health care, improve the quality of the services offered and also reduce the cost of which the patients are to receive these treatments and all this is through the involvement of the nursing leaders and the nursing with the widespread use of the nursing care solutions (Jeffreys,2015). Through this, the initiative aims at transforming the healthcare services in the United States for all patients as well as transform the nursing profession in general. The initiative aims at reviewing innovative models of nursing care in the US and also the education with the goal to transform the future of nursing by coming up with solutions that nursing has to offer in order to achieve quality patient care while in the meantime controlling the cost.

Importance of the future for nursing Initiative

From this initiative we drive the main importance of the initiative is to improve the healthcare system in the US. The nation cannot conclusively address the challenges facing the healthcare system in the nation without them addressing the challenges facing the nursing profession which happens to be the heart of the health care system in the nation. Hence the motivation that for health reforms to succeed the initiative has to change the way this health care is delivered. The nurse happens to be the key support when it comes to patient care hence they are to be considered fully for the health care system to be affordable and best (Gregory et al., 2014).

Introduction to State Based Coalition

The state-based action coalitions campaign for the transformation of health care and health through nursing which aids in building a healthier America. These coalitions are found in different states around the US and have been backed by different initiatives such as Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, AARP Foundation the Future for Nursing and many other initiatives. The main purpose for these coalitions is to mobilize nurses, patients, health providers, businesses and also educators so as to strengthen the nursing profession (Jeffreys,2015). They are working with all these team players so as to meet the increasing demand for high-quality, safe and effective healthcare in the US.

The coalitions in the different states have managed to advance their goals in future of nursing via increasing the diversity in nursing; they help in improving access to care where the nurses must be allowed to put practice to the full potential of their education as well as their training and experience (Gregory et al., 2014). Also so as to meet the goal of future of nursing the have advocated for Interprofessional Collaborations where the nurses have to collaborate with professionals such health advocates city planning educators and many more professions in the field so as to promote the well-being of the state they are in and their knowledge. Other steps such as the promotion of nurses in leadership positions which helps the nation to be in its healthiest position with the nurses in control who happen to be the key to health care as seen earlier in the paper. Also, the state coalitions have transformed the nursing education so as to prepare them for more complex health situations hence preparing more (Atkins et al., 2016). Another measure such as building healthier communities with the nurses helping see to it that everyone leads a healthy life in the community bring the coalitions closer to their goal.

State of Arizona

For this study Arizona, the state I wish to review has shown a lot of progress although it has also reported a few obstacles in the process of achieving the goals of the future of nursing. The coalition in the state is referred to as Arizona Action Coalition (AZAC). With a mission to promote the understanding of the many major roles that our nurses play in the healthcare system in the state and also increases the access to opportunities for the nurses to grow their professions as well as their practice (Atkins et al., 2016). This center is organized by Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in connection with AARP and it's among the many coalitions in different states seen previously in the paper. It is aimed at increasing quality care through nurses, changing and improving the nursing profession as well as giving the patient quality healthcare services at an affordable cost (Atkins et al., 2016). This are the major aims also for the RWJF as seen earlier in the paper, just that the coalition brings all these benefits closer to the end users who need them basically in different states.

The Arizona Action Coalition (AZAC) has created action teams to work on the four main programs in the state namely, Evidence Based Practice, Leadership Development, Diversity and Scope of practice.

Diversity and Outreach

The initiative programs in Arizona to look at is first diversity and outreach program which has been aimed at advancing the nursing profession. The vision of diversity and outreach program in Arizona coalition has been to encourage a large number of nurses from different backgrounds in the state and encourage them to act as the catalyst for excellence, leadership and growth in the nursing profession field so as to encourage the others. The mission has been facilitating the implementation of the recommendations issued by IOM which embrace nurses from different backgrounds, nurses with different perspectives and also nurses with different experience (Arizona Action Coalition (AZAC), 2017). This diversification has helped broaden the abilities of problem-solving situations in the health centers within the state due to different ideologies from the nurses with different experiences and backgrounds. From the Arizona Action Coalition (AZAC) website, we have nurses giving own personal testimonies which are so encouraging and an indicator that the program is functional.

Leadership and Development

The second program to look at from the Arizona Action Coalition (AZAC) is the leadership development program. The program's vision is to create a self-sustaining center for nursing excellence within the state which is to act as the motivation for growing excellent professions in the nursing field within the state. It has aimed at defining leadership in a way that the nurses within the Arizona state feel encouraged to act as leaders not only within the health centers but also in the communities. As seen earlier having nurses in leadership positions within a community leads to a healthier community. The program has realized so many leadership contents to the nurses which is aimed at exposing them to the leading positions and they are in a position to handle all the leadership pressures (Arizona Action Coalition (AZAC), 2014). These leadership resources have been covered in the leadership library offered in the program within the leadership development program in the state of Arizona.

Challenge Faced by the Coalition

With all this covered there have been a few shortcomings which act as a barrier to the entire program and these include funds. Funds needed to cater for all these programs from time to time are not enough hence some functions are not implemented which could have been very helpful if they were to be implemented. The only solution to this problem would probably be more funds and also donations from both the community who are interested in helping.
