Introduction
Technology has had immense impacts on workplaces, individuals and society at large. It has substantially enhanced how business is conducted and how people do their jobs. Workers can now easily access data, information, and research. Technology is revolutionizing the job market and especially information system careers. It has improved the accuracy and speed of affairs, increased quality, reduced costs, and improved client satisfaction. This paper examines the impacts of technology on information system career with an emphasis on Skype for business, Excel, and SAP.
Skype for Business is a constituent of Microsoft Office and utilized by teams and work groups for collaboration and communication purposes. It was formerly referred to as the Microsoft Lync Server and was developed as a unified communication platform that incorporates business communication means and online meetings (Rouse 2017). It integrates physical and virtual aspects into a single experience. It enables real-time communication, instant messaging in addition to content sharing. It goes beyond traditional communication. Skype for Business will have positive impacts on my Information System career. First, it will help in building relationships since video and voice calls can be made to both personal and business contacts. Despite the presence of instant messaging, Skype for Business offers real-time voice communication essential in developing strong ties. The instant messaging capability enables the sharing of documents in addition to the group chat option for impromptu remote meetings ("real benefits" 2012). It is also cheap since the basic version feels and the premium version is approximately $5 a month. Lastly, it offers flexibility since it can be with smartphones and tablets for business and personal communication.
Excel is a spreadsheet that was developed Microsoft for application in Windows, iOS, Android, and MacOS. It has various features such as calculation, tools for graphing, pivot tables and Visual Basic for applications. Excel has great impacts on the Information System career. It is especially important when one needs to make the most of their data. For instance, it helps in graphing in that aids in the production of different charts used in the representation of statistical data in a visual manner (Fish 2016). It is easy to use since formulae and procedures are integrated. It also helps in data organization in that it helps in the storage of data in a systematic and organized manner. One can use tables and be able to organize data. Additionally, it helps in programming in that it supports most programming languages. Excel is essential for the reason of proficiency. It makes it possible to keep updated records concerning different programs and activities.
SAP (Systems, applications, products) is a new technology which entails a detailed set of integrated, cross0functional business processes (Rouse 2018). It entails a fully integrated module which encompasses different aspects of business management. SAP has several benefits in Information System career. It helps in increasing productivity since it enhances communication and eliminates redundant data entry. With SAP, there is no need to use multiple software programs. It also helps in cost savings since only one software program is used instead of multiple pieces to track data and generate reports (Saslow 2014). Lastly, it supports consistent operations since numbers can be consistently entered and reported.
Conclusion
In conclusion, it is important to understand that technological advancements are happening every day. Individuals and businesses need to keep abreast of all these advancements to ensure they improve their productivity, reduce operation costs and remain competitive in the job market. Skype for business, Excel, and SAP are some of the developments that are critical in the business environment. They will be especially essential in my Information System career.
