Introduction
Developing an appealing application design is not only about a big concept but also comprehending the basic elements of a subject (Taheri, 2018). There are some of the fundamentals that every application designer should understand before starting any application design for computers. They include line, colour, shape, space, scale and texture. They are important since they make an application appear professional and beautiful. Therefore, this paper discusses the elements of good application design for computers and explains why are they important when building applications.
Line
It is defined as a stroke of pencil or pen, in graphic design, connecting two points (Taheri, 2018). It is important for dividing the space in an application. It is also significant in drawing the eye to a particular point in an application.
ColourIt can be applied to other elements such as shapes and lines, stand as a background, or even alone. It is important in creating a mood within an application (Taheri, 2018). It also gives more information about an application. Each colour denotes something unique, and therefore, their combinations can further change the impression of application (Sangkloy, Lu, Fang Yu & Hays, 2017).
Shapes
They can be demarcated by boundaries, for example, colour or lines and in most cases, are utilised to stress a part of page. They comprise three categories such as abstract, natural, and geometric shapes. Shapes are important since they establish a visual attracting design for a computer application.
Space
Space such as negative space is among the most widely misunderstood and underutilised element of a computer application design (Taheri, 2018). It refers to portions of the site which are left blank either white or any other colour. Space is important since it creates the general image of an application. Negative space can also be utilised to create shapes.
Texture
It is linked to an object's surface. Designers use it in computer application design to add visual and depth interest. Therefore, it is important in creating a three-dimensional image (Sangkloy, Lu, Fang Yu & Hays, 2017). Also, it is important in creating an immersive computer application.
Scale
It is defined as the size of an object with respect to others in application design. It is important since it is employed in conveying significance, creating contrast, and attracting attention of application's users (Sangkloy, Lu, Fang Yu & Hays, 2017). Also, altering the scale of an applications as well as other elements incorporates emphasis and interest in an application.
There exist various basic elements, but the fore-mentioned are few of the fundamentals of good application design for computers. They include line, colour, shape, texture, scale, and space. Therefore, with their knowledge, even amateurs can create appealing and professional computer applications.
