Introduction

For people to make conclusions and come up with understandings about themselves, they make use of existing literature to make connections of events and how they determine present and past experiences. Primarily writing enables us to make connections through already existing connectable patterns allowing us to make sense of the world in general. By making connections, we can discover new lessons and gain knowledge and skills thus making living with these experiences comfortable and unforgettable. It enables the known, thus allowing us to make assumptions and address current situations confidently with the knowledge that they have always existed and us to link the new (Satrapi & Marjane, 2008). Religion

"In 1979, a revolution took place. It was later called The Islamic Revolution." The theme of religion is quite prevalent within the text. The existing regime within the Persepolis expects every individual to follow Islam to the latter. In most works of literature when a write introduces religion, they give it a specific attribute which can portray is as good or bad depending on the characters and setting of the book. Marji is seen to exhibit deep religious signs as a child, but her parents are not religious in any way. However, as she turns ten years, an Islamic revolution occurred within her homeland forcing many rules and changes on every individual in Iran (Tensuan, 2006). The revolution acts as a source of tension within the book as it evokes the differences between good and bad religion in her eyes. Marji portrays a tension towards private religion whereas the Islamic revolution describes itself as an organized religion. When Marji moves to Australia, she experiences Catholicism which according to her is less harmful compared to the revolution in Iran at that time. The primary focus of the essay is to determine why Satrapy portrays organized religion as inferior within her text when comparing it to private religion.

Marji states that ''I was born with religion'' and goes further to explain her relationship with God who she considers an imaginary friend. Her mode of religion is vital in her life and appears influential. However, it's unique in that no one is forced to adhere to it which exhibits freedom of religion (Tensuan, 2006). The book's definition of religion enables us to explore the intersection that exists between modernity and religion and identify the effects that religious repression has on those who adhere to it.

The revolution was accepted by many Iranians with the aim of enabling them to gain freedom from the oppressive and decadent rule of foreign-based Shah. It gave rise to a conservative religion that defined the western culture to be incompatible with Islam.

Revision

Within the first introduction, one can understand the connection that exists within life and the significance of literacy as a vital surviving factor. The Persepolis is a masterpiece in the world of art. It exhibits significant aspects within the society vividly embodying the real situation that exists within most Islamic countries (Tensuan, 2006). One of the major themes within the text is religion. Marji represents the existence of a different type of religion that is personal and conservative whereas the Islamic community acts as an organized religion.

Personal Experiences

As a child, I was introduced by my parents and baptized into their church. With time after reading some literature work on religion, I was against their mode of worship and many features of the religion. Some of the factors seemed to take root from the civilization era whereas others were turning the church into an economic activity other than religion as it should be. Just like Marji, my belief is personal and conservative until I have enough and credible data concerning the issue of religion and existence of deities. '

Comic Devices Used Within the Text

The writer exploits both physical and verbal devices within the scenes. Verbal comic devices allow the text to alter the mood of the reader and shift monotonicity in relation to transitions within the drama. It also promotes wittiness within the reader after he or she catches the primary intent of the used devices (Satrapi & Marjane, 2008). Physical evidence has also been utilized as both societies battle out with each other allowing the writer to engage the audience's attention.
