Introduction

Recently, students are bragging about how they would pursue nursing for the returns they would get. However, flashing back to 70's, new graduates would work for $10 dollars per hour, and this was high wages then. Others nurses then did not have good wages since they would take care of eight patients at the same time and get paid $3 per hour, making about $6000 per year. Looking at today's case with nurses, the job is much harder although some employers are stating that new graduates need to be taught how to work. However, during those earlier years, some of the fresh graduate nurses were stressed such that they were unable to pass meds with sobs. In those years, nurses would practice without license and I case of failure, the graduates would automatically become assistant nurses accompanied with wage reduction- this remained the rule until they passed the practical sessions. As clearly observed, nurse of 1970's and those of today work hard for the wages (All Nursing Schools, n.d.).

American nurses are the highest paid in the world, but is it worth? Some students nowadays are entering the nursing field for the wages, but once they know that hard work is required in nursing, they quit very fast. While the long predicted shortage of nurses is about to occur, the salaries, as a result are bound to get better- most of the nurses earn six-figure salaries. A report released by Nurse.com indicated that the salaries that have been steadily the same in for many years have now started rising by 2.6% each year. Looking at the grand market, experience needed and education qualifications, the money paid to nurses is worth it (Tijdens, et al., 2013). However, the work done by nurses is hard both emotionally and physically, and that is where the problem lies.

Some of the nurses argue that they entered the field because they had a calling into it, of which it is true, but that should not be the only reason why they chose the career. A small number of nurses who enter the field only because of the salary remain in it. Some of the nurses have had their reasons for joining the nursing field. Some of the nurses say that money was not on their mind when they joined the area because they went into it with the aim of helping people. One of the nurses who graduated in 1972 and earned $3.50 per hour inclusive of evening add-ons and charge nurse was excited, and she bought a car to get to work. She agrees that the nursing salary has been awesome throughout her life as a nurse but she did not expect it. Others even state that being a nurse is priceless because their work of health sick people cannot be matched to any salary value. Nursing field requires a student to love the profession and people and not the wages that come for working as a nurse. Since the profession entails socializing with patients and other people in the field, it becomes part of life of the nurses (Nurse Practitioner Schools, n.d.). As a result, it becomes almost impossible to separate nurses and their very being. Therefore, nursing is a fortunate calling that provides practitioners a decent life.

Conclusion

Essentially, it is all about loving what you do or the role you are in. Nursing and the income earned from it cannot match- the priceless nature of the profession. The difference comes because nurses are people who health unhealthy and sick citizens and the money they get from it is decent, not enough value for their work.
