Introduction

I experienced a traumatic brain injury after I was knocked on my head while playing rugby that caused my brain and head quickly shake back and forth. This resulted in an altered mental state that included becoming unconscious. The concussion affected the cognitive abilities of my brain which are necessary to function and learn in school. As a result of the injury my brain did not function effectively as it did before which seemed to affect my ability to perform many routine duties that are important to academic performance, consisting but not limited to, the potential to process information, multitask, focus, as well as recall information quickly. This made my school work seem to be harder and it took me longer to complete it. The environments in the school with power points, computer screens, and bright lights, as well as noisy environments, also seemed to exacerbate symptoms and I could not tolerate it (Ransom, Vaughan, Pratson, Sady, & Gioia, 2015). This made me out of school for a prolonged period to get medical assistance then I was left behind with my studies.
