Introduction

With the advent of new technologies and innovations, Building Automation Systems (BAS) offer many benefits to the elderly and even the regular population. The environment in the state of Florida is consistently becoming hazardous due to emission of greenhouse gases by the industries and the new buildings that continue to compete for the skyline of the state and this can be turned around by ensuring observation of safety measures on the institution of the new buildings in the state. Therefore, the installation of such systems in the buildings of Florida will not only be beneficial for the residents of Florida but will also benefit other regular residents even though it will be created with the elderly above 65 years in mind.

Overall benefits for the BAS systems include overall energy efficiency, lower conservation, and cost of operation, greater comfort, and productivity for the occupants. The proper implementation of smart automation hardware and software assists managers and building owners as well as the general public to improve asset performance as well as reliability (Eddin et al., 2019). Such improvements finally ameliorate the use of energy in the building as well as optimize the space available; reducing the impact the building has on the environment. Automation of buildings is essential for the security and comfort of the occupants and also benefits the general public in terms of environmental preservation and conservation.

The creation of proper systems of automation for the state is essential for both older and the new buildings in the state to ensure proper coverage of the entire state's building infrastructure. This means the provision of essentials like control of temperature, humidity, ambiance and the general security of the buildings. Various companies offering these services can be sought to offer the optimum solution for performance and excellent quality insurance. The concepts of converting newer or even the older structures to smart buildings are constantly changing. Some of the benefits of building automation in efficiency and energy conservation include the increase of value, decrease in the costs of operation, enhancement of the system performance, advancement of the tools used, and improvement in security, sustenance in long term solutions, and total control of the building and saving of energy (Liu et al., 2018). The use of intelligent building automation systems increases the value of the property. This is because real estate containing automated energy conservation mechanisms is normally valued higher compared to other regular buildings. Moreover, a system of building management control offers actionable conservation as well as sustainable management of energy.

Overall, various challenges are presented with the implementation of BAS systems in new buildings. Not only do they face the threat of systematic failure in functionality, but they can also be a great barrier when it comes to user interface customization. Some of the challenges include the use of proper technological innovation to ensure compatibility with the particular building technology. This problem can be cured by carrying out enough research to ensure that every innovation accompanies the right building and hence fits into the specific space. Proper research must be conducted in every case to ensure that they meet the requirements.
