An incentive is the act or the promise that guarantees greater output and action. It is a stimulus that is aimed at greater actions and outputs and is given on top of the wagers thus providing an added remuneration and benefits to the employees in recognition of better output and achievement in the workplace. While motivation is the factor that leads the employee to have more desire in the pursuance of the set goals. Both incentives and motivation in the workplace ensure that the employee performed better leading to more company output and increased the productivity of the company. The hotel industry is one of the industries with a high level of competition and therefore creates a higher level of urgency in the incorporation of incentives and motivations in the industry. Below are some of the incentives and motivation strategies that are key in the restaurant set up;

Creation of a positive working environment

Employees are currently motivated through the provision of an upbeat through a positive working environment. The observation of teamwork especially in times of outside catering where the employees group themselves in teams and aim at providing the best services to the sections allotted. The management also ensures that the employees have their tools and the right knowledge to meet different set up platforms for the purpose of offering the best services to the customers. There is always the presence of a manager in the various activities of the restaurant to act as the sounding board and the mediator in times of possible conflict. The manager also ensures that the employees have the freedom to work independently when necessary.

Setting of Goals

The management ensures that the employees are self-motivated through the establishment of professional objectives and goals that align with those of the restaurant. This not only helps the employees to achieve set goals but also greatly benefits the restaurant by ensuring that the goals and the objectives of the employees are tied with those of the company.

Recognition of the achievements by the employees

The management ensures that they recognize the input of the employees through giving awards and incentives through an employee of the month awards. Monthly staff meetings ensure that the winners are highly recognized through celebration. The winners are recognized through the companys website and publications, this gives them the ultimate motivation as the publications are also in some of the major magazine lines and online sites.

The management regularly surveys the employees levels of satisfaction. In times when output or customers reviews change the company hires independent parties that conduct different formal focus groups to evaluate the employees opinions and recent opinions on the mode of output and productivity. This helps in the evaluation of the factors that could be killing the morale of the employees before they become extreme. The act of soliciting the employees also helps create a positive atmosphere for the employees as they get that deep sense of the management caring about their surroundings.

This is the incentive whereby team members are given a bonus for a reduction in the wastage and increased productivity. The hoteling industry entails the provision of services which cannot be fully quantitatively evaluated since they dont entail a given number or quantitative in nature.

The level of competition in the industry is cutthroat due factors such as home and the outside catering services. This poses a challenge as it becomes difficult to identify the clusters of the customers, furthermore customers are continuing to prefer different services such as home deliveries from companies such as KFC, Dominos, and others such as Airbnb that offer accommodation services.

Quality supersedes quantity, and therefore the employees productivity should be evaluated at the highest possible level. The company should ensure that the employees meet the deadlines through the evaluation of customers opinions and suggestions on the standards of output.

This helps the employees to develop a form of a cultural workforce through teamwork. This is evaluated through random assignments to employees and observing the level of contribution.

The employees should be taken to constant training programs so that they can remain competent and be sure of retaining their jobs.

Recognition

Employees who perform best need to be awarded in a greater aspect such as holiday offers and family resort tickets. This helps the employees work harder with the prospects of getting the rewards.

Better job titles

Employees who perform best need to be promoted and given better roles in the new branches being opened or other associate companies.

Healthy competition job rotation

The company should ensure that the company offers a platform for healthy competition that is result oriented and not differently directed. Job rotation helps the employees to find departments in which they can work best.

Treat employees with respect

A job environment that has respect from the management towards the employees ensures that the employees can work with confidence and respect towards the objectives of the company.

Moral hazards

Employees in all industries are covered on the minimum wage bill and insure them against any health risks such as cuts and burns with a compulsory recovery time not less than 21 days. Underperforming employees, therefore, are free from any wage cuts as a result of reduced income to the company due to low output and also protected from termination of work without a constant negative review from the other employees and management where not all employees collaborate. Some of the employees take advantage of the recovery time given for personal activities by taking the leaves sometimes in numbers that affect the companys productivity.
