Introduction
Often people find themselves stressed up in a hurry or engrossed in something, fixed itineraries of school, work and other excursions. Complete serenity is a wish for most people, to approach difficulties and all situations with composure, calmness, and equanimity. By keeping a sense of serenity, emotions tend to be on balance, in which case the searing evens like losing relationships, fear, anger or even violation of best intrinsic values one has is kept at bay. Serenity is threatened, however. It comes in handy by helping individuals govern themselves and control their feelings and notions towards events.
According to The Cambridge English Dictionary Serenity refers to the quality of being calm and peaceful, ("Serenity"). However, the universe is imbued in turmoil and entropic events that tend to create turbulence and distractions in every step of life. The idea therefore as ideal and elusive as it seems and sounds; is at the center of man's coexistence. People given the remote possibility of its existence, pursue the stillness through various means. Some trace it in a quiet room, in the serene leafy and cool leafy gardens. Some through meditation from soothes of music as they resign to their deepest innermost. At the same time, others resort to workout, just what one finds interesting and that which bears any causation to the achievement of this state of mind. Depending on what incites one's positive emotions, people who value the comfort of events such as sports would resort to that connotative sense of serenity. For them, serenity means dispensing with weariness, from both physical and unseen realm. For instance, getting to a workout room, engaging in activities such as weightlifting, tread milling, and other salient activities that restore a calm state of mind, helps a lot. Since it is a relative notion, others incline their serenity just at the comfort of their verandahs, or videos. It simply means getting into what restores a state of calmness, tranquility, and peace in one's mind.
One such most intriguing area where some people would seek and find serenity in poignancy during prayer meditations. Religious people (Christians in this example) consider prayer both denotative and connotative, depending on the level of piety and devoutness of one who says the prayer. They consider prayer both an external or literal tool as much as the most serene atmosphere. It is the safest of havens on earth within which their minds can afford a state of quiet and absolute rest from the physical world marred with tumult and pandemonium. The wisdom of knowing the reach of true serenity can be considered an ability or capacity to identify the secret thing that affords comfort to oneself. Areal time example of one such denotation and a connotative idea of serenity includes the authorship of Serenity Prayer by Reinhold Niebuhr in 1930. Theologians and historians believe that the timing of this authorship bore some connotations to the context of events in 1930. The state of confusion, war and political supremacy, racism and other vile undertones were the order of life, not only in the western bloc but the whole world. The author writes and to that effect recourses to the serenity in prayer by asking for divine intervention. According to the author, God may grant human the serenity to accept events they cannot change, and the courage to give them the ability to change that which is possible.
Serenity also underlies the sense of accepting incapacities to manipulate the eventualities that one faces. Some tend to yield to aggravations, hostilities, noise, frustrations, and disappointments in life, just letting things take their course and holding on to a state of indifference. In this respect though, people numb the idea that anything else matters, and this bears the negative connotation of serenity. Serenity, by and large, connotes the notion of relapsing into what restores the ideal state of mind, the calmness, and tranquility.
However, achieving and sustaining the peaceful, calm and still atmosphere in one's mind as well as in the surrounding. On the flipside, The Cambridge Dictionary indicates the words disruption, storminess, anxiety, trouble or state of distress as opposed to the serene atmosphere ("Serenity"). One such outstanding example when the state of calmness and peaceful mind was suspended in real time experience was the September eleven (the 9/11). The day when, alongside humanity, the magnificence and splendor of the Pentagon and the World Trade Center (Twin Towers) came down into ruins and pieces.
Conclusion
The atmosphere of fear, storminess of distress engulfed the New York City, Pennsylvania and Washington D.C upon the wake of a series of coordinated deadliest terrorist attacks. The eventuality of the 9/11 sets in the feeling of suspicion, no mind at least, in the areas of the crash, affords any peace of mind. The relatives of close to 3000 casualties left in obvious perturbation, mourning friends and loved ones, holding candle-light vigils as the rest of the world join in the sympathy. People across the globe were trying to restore calmness and serenity in its absence. Serenity is disrupted from the within and without. To the terrorists and hijackers of the 9/11 example, perhaps commissioning the heinous attack was their form of 'serenity'. However, this is just what serenity is not. The eventuality of the absence of serenity means connotes disruption and trouble. Serenity is not, just of one's own volition, creating an environment of distress or anxiety to others. Serenity embraces co-existence and pluralism without inflicting pain.
