Introduction
The documentary Rape on the Night Shift as about a woman called Morales. She is an office cleaner who does her chores late in the evening when all the other workers had left for home apart from her supervisor Jose Vasquez. Jose takes control of all health clinics and low-slung offices across the Californian central valley called Bakersfield.
Jose likes keeping watch as Morales carryout her duties. This has tormented Morales who had sought for either another supervisor or quitting the job. Besides, Jose managed to corner and sexually assaulted her (Bergman et al., 2015). Later, she decided to leave the job amidst lamentations of Jose's awkward behaviors. It is noted that everyone confirmed the unethical behavior of Jose in the company.
After watching the documentary, I felt offended. My hatred for unethical supervisors escalates to higher ranks. Jose was not only a supervisor who is supposed to take care and guide the employees in running their chores within the firm but also such nonsensical leaders who take advantage of the naive employee especially the ones who work at night.
Notably, rape is the documentary is caused by Jose Vasquez, instead of either going home early as other workers or doing the recommended roles for his positions, he is often seen spying at Morales. However, to stop this all employees regardless of their beliefs, they should be restricted from accessing the opposite sex. Similarly, the victims should not be allowed to quit the job but instead reinstated through confronting the person responsible.
Sexual assault is possible everywhere regardless of the place or position. However, the nature of the menace in the workplace has remained bizarre to fathom by the public. Approximately sixty people are sexually assaulted every day while they run errands in their business. Besides, several companies hide their complaints from the general public as settles the cases secretly before filed lawsuit cases. The case result is usually cloaked by unanimously and confidential agreements between the two. Generally, the janitor in the night shift is a simple target for such abuses. Amidst the longtime confrontations and failed rape cases, Morales did speak out for fear of losing her job.
Secondly, Rape remains a significant concern that tears people apart from their jobs. The low in the job ranks are threatened with deportation or being fired if they fail to comply or attempt to speak out. Research reveals that ABM which is the largest janitorial in the world has been sued on several occasions for mishandling sexual harassment cases. Among them are allegations of rape.
Sentencing the Victim
The documentary is about one rape survivor who is seeking for her justice in one of the systems that ended up judging her. It captures a story of a 19-year-old blood-soaked woman called Joanna Katz who managed to walk away after being attacked by armed men who raped her. The women were brutally tortured, beaten and raped for more than five hours by a gang of five men. However, she still managed to manage even to rescue her friend from mild death as she continues to fight her fate out to ensure her assailants are convicted. Besides, the case twisted against her, and she is sentenced. The most peculiar part of the story was the point when the woman reported her example of raped and instead of getting a just ruling, the situation turned against her, and she is sentenced. It is very ironical for such incidence to occur especially which the nature of torments the woman underwent. It is a way of deserting people of their rights as you breed sexual assaults and injustices.
Criminal justice can be traumatic to both the witness and the victims when the case turns against them, and instead of sentencing the assault they are the ones to be convicted. Failure to get justice from your plea makes most people feel traumatized because of their dependency nature on courts to judge right (Booth, 2016). In rape and sexual assaults, the trauma may make the victims commit suicide. Similarly, when the cases are given less time and attention as may require most victims and witnesses are left ajar on their next move.
However, if the victim receives the needed justice and the assault is sentenced about the stipulated laws and rules guiding the case, most victims and witness receives a healing hope. According to Booth, they walk home both heads and shoulder high knowing that their assaults are going to face the same wrath they underwent (Booth, 2016). Similarly, most victims and witnesses feel relieved when the case takes the shortest time possible before the final ruling.
Moreover, for a respectful treatment of the victims and the witness, helping professionals and criminal should ensure that:
- They provide victims and the witnesses with support and information in a way showing that their interests and needs are valid and their plea is being given attention. This enables them to have hopes of fair judgments.
- They should ensure that the dignity of the victims is respected and not viewing them as autonomous persons who can take control of their lives.
Overall, the application of remote facility measures and limits in cross-examination helps in reducing intimidation and trauma thus preventing the witness and the victims from any disrespectful treatments.
Conclusion
In conclusion, rape and rape cases in most companies are a great menace that detaches most victims of the rational being. Most victims feel out space and without adequate response to curb it, they threat maybe alarming. Similarly, criminal justice should be intelligent enough to heal both the victims and the witness from various agonies they have undergone.
