Inter-professional and intra-professional collaboration involves an effective working relationship whereby multiple healthcare workers with different professional backgrounds work together to deliver patient-centered care (Joy, & Dittmar, 2017). In the DNP project, the inter-professional collaboration will provide an effective practice change that will be patient-centered for quality patient outcome regarding the prevention and management of Hospital Acquired Pressure Ulcers (Norman, et al., 2016). Another importance of the collaboration is effective leadership to run the DNP project. The inter-professional collaboration will also provide effective channels of communication during the DNP project procedure (New Report Demonstrates Effectiveness of IPCE, 2016).

In an inter-professional team, the competencies needed by the DNP leader include; the ability to establish and evaluate care delivery strategies that conform to the current and future requirements of the patient population with the help of scientific findings in nursing (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2006). Another competency is to "ensure accountability for the quality of health care and patient safety for the population under services" which involves; application of advanced communication skills, health policy, accounting for all risks in the project, establishing cost-effective improvement of healthcare outcomes and lastly demonstrating sensitivity to project cultures and population involved diversity (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2006). Another competency needed by the DNP leader is the ability to develop effective strategies to overcome ethical dilemmas involved in patient care, research and healthcare organization (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2006).

For the self-assessment on leadership competencies to develop a plan for professional development related to leadership of collaborative teams, the DNP leadership essentials will be used to find out if one can meet them. The first assessment is organizational and systems leadership. To improve patient and healthcare outcomes, one should have the capacity to apply skills that demonstrate organizationally and systems leadership (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2006). Another assessment on developing collaborative teams is the ability to organize care that will address all emerging issues in the collaborative team. Inter-professional collaboration has challenges that require sophisticated expertise to address (Dunbar-Jacob, Nativio, & Khalil, 2013). The third assessment is the ability to balance between the productivity of the collaborative teams and quality care as well as developing quality improvement skills.

Emotional intelligence for leaders is an essential skill that enables leaders to understand and manage their emotions and those of their followers (Lorber, 2015). In the collaborative team different individuals will express their emotions according to which as a leader with emotional intelligence, they will be addressed fully. Emotional intelligence equips leaders with self-awareness to address their strengths and weaknesses without any difficulties (Lorber, 2015). Emotional intelligence helps in managing personal emotions as a leader and staying in control. Another importance is effective communication. Effective communication is an essential skill in inter-collaboration leadership (Lorber, 2015). Lastly, emotional intelligence helps leaders by equipping them with social awareness and conflict resolution in the workplace (Lorber, 2015).

Use of information technology (IT) for project management

Information technology (IT) is very important for project management because it is applied in many circumstances that would have encountered barriers without IT. IT can be used in the project management to evaluate programs of care as well as the outcomes of the project patient care Bates (David, 2012). IT is can also be the backbone tool applicable in the budget and productivity tools. Another importance of IT in project management is the application of information systems and decision supports (Restuccia, et al., 2012). Additionally, information technology can help the project managers in developing a web-based learning tool that will contribute to improved patient care (Restuccia, et al., 2012). The significance of IT for the future role after completion of the DNP degree is that the nurses will have the ability design, use, and evaluate IT programs that are used in various healthcare units to monitor outcomes and developing quality improvement strategies (Restuccia, et al., 2012). Another significance of the future role is the ability to analyze and establish critical elements that are applied when selecting an IT program (Felder, 2013). Additionally, IT has a lot of significance to the future role, for instance, conceptual ability and technical skills in designing and evaluating information systems (Park, et al., 2014).

For a self-assessment of the IT competencies, one will focus on the ability to design, use, and evaluate an information technology system (Park, et al., 2014). This ability is the key competency that one can command an information system. Another competency on self-assessment is the capacity to describe the essentials of an IT system (Park, et al., 2014). Additionally, the self-assessment will also focus on the ability to develop strategies and learning programs that are effective for improved patient care and safety (Huckvale, et al., 2011).

DNP project scenario

The first scenario on the implementation plan for the DNP project is the collection of outcome information. Outcome information can be successfully collected using the IT systems for the project which will be easier to analyze and evaluate results. The only challenge with the IT application in this scenario is inadequate expertise in the IT systems (Esmaeilzadeh, Sambasivan, & Kumar, 2012). The second scenario on the implementation plan is the evaluation of the project outcomes. The IT systems have the capacity to analyze information for easier analysis and development of conclusions. The only challenge in this scenario when applying IT systems is inadequate expertise to use and evaluate information using the IT systems (Esmaeilzadeh, Sambasivan, & Kumar, 2012).
