One of the greatest lessons I have learned from the course is that we are living in a cynical and demanding time due to the political and socioeconomic issues in the contemporary society. The people who have dealt with social problems for a long time are disillusioned, estranged and disoriented mainly due to collapsing social change grand paradigms which are useful in guiding their commitments. One of the remedies suggested in the course for dealing with social changes is the adaptation to the changing sociocultural norm and symbols, values and behavioral rules (Loeb, 2010). The course has been useful in the evolution of my perspective in that it has contributed significantly to the development of my self-awareness after self-assessment and reflection which are the primary elements in the creation of positive social changes. One of the aspects that have contributed towards the evolution of my perspective is the need and objective of following my path in a manner suitable to my distinctive and unique personality depending on the circumstances. My point of view for social change has also evolved such that I now know that despite the absence of blueprint and magnetic aspects that can conform an ideal society, it is essential to have goals and objectives in life that are worth working towards and to have the ability of discerning inappropriate aspects.
Through the development of self- awareness from the course lessons, the part of my social change evolution is the realization and management of self-consciousness which has played a critical role in my life by in encouraging me to be devoted to the aspects that contribute to the improvement of my life. According to Loeb (2010), involvement in social work and issues is useful in preparing individuals regarding the necessary social skills and knowledge needed in the novel worlds. As a result of drawing a lesson from the course, I am now able to avoid vices that derail me from achieving self-improvement and embrace the virtues that have a positive impact on my life and those that cannot affect others. It is my belief that the course will continue changing my perspective such that at the end, I will be engrossed towards the attainment of positive change both in my professional and social life. My belief is based on Staub's (2013) suggestion of building existing knowledge and skills foundation as critical aspect in enabling individuals to gain new insights and competencies for developing social skills for meeting new people, and exploiting new priorities. I believe that the course will influence the evolution of my perspective by bringing more social issues at the epicenter of my focus.
How Experience Has Influenced My Ability to Create Positive Social Change
The experience has been useful in the creation of positive social changes in that the course has encouraged me to surrender the beliefs that have the capacity of limiting my potential of social adaptability. From experience gained from the course, I have changed my perspective, especially in leadership as the key position that has an upper hand in creating positive social changes. One of my childhood dreams was to be a manager of a highly performing organization and the experience from the course has influenced my capacity to establish positive social changes by equipping me with knowledge and skills for creating a long-standing commitment to an honest and open, safe and healthy business and political environment (Loeb, 2010). The experience from the course has thought me to be result-oriented, community partner and an environmental steward in my future endeavors as a leader with the capacity to create impact for social change. Therefore, the experiences have increased my ability to focus on the key aspects and concepts necessary for aligning my efforts for social responsibility with my needs, objectives and future ambitions.
Preventing Burn Out
Miller and Rollnick (2012) outline some of the ways of preventing burn out to include the recognition of the needs, aspiration, and objectives of the people that are involved in a particular activity. Therefore, during my engagement in the social issues, I will prevent burn out by encouraging the concerned individuals on the importance of the creation and maintenance of positive social change in the community as a way of motivating them to know the objective of the social drive. Another recommendable strategy for reducing burnout is through an active engagement of all the stakeholders of my course of action and assisting them in the realization significant changes in their lives through inspiring them to take part in leading the creation of sustainable and positive social change in the community. The other section of my checklist for successful prevention of burnout include working with purpose so the social issue can have a definable process of producing a sustainable solution in the community. The other action that I will undertake to reduce burn out is the delegation of work basing on participant's abilities and eliminating unnecessary tasks. Lastly, burnout has a significant relationship with stress hence an essential strategy for preventing it is through efficient management of stress and taking control to ensure active time management.
