In my opinion, I believe grades do not accurately reflect my ability. I highly respect all those who score highly, point being its a standard minimum requirement. Grades cannot affect the ability of an individual to take a particular initiative or to take up leadership roles. Good grades do not determine someones patience, consistency, attitude or diligence, education defines your depth in knowledge in a general area but do not complete a dashboard of real abilities, potential, and worthiness to carry out a particular function. There are too many factors that determine grades what if someone feels sick the day of the test? What if on the day of the tests there are some distractions such as a student keeps squeaking his chair in the back row or noise from other students making noise outside the classroom? Grades can reflect so many things such as wise time management and dedication of the student, but it may not truly give a reflection of the individuals intelligence. Intelligence cannot be determined by just one element. Intelligence can be street smart intelligence, artistically gifted intelligence or musically gifted intelligence, therefore, grades are not the only marker of intelligence. A creative answer might be correct but considered wrong just because its different and does not fit into the education system.

Some of the semesters I just took seven (7), eleven (11) or twelve (12) credits due to some family issues that came up. I lost my grandfather who was a pillar of strength and support to my family and me since our move to America when I was in ninth grade. He was like a father to me providing me with both moral and financial support. This was a big blow to me both emotionally and financially. Since moving to America, he would finance me academically by buying me all books I needed and also paid for my tuition fees and other personal expenses. After losing my grandfather, I could not pay all the bills and expenditures and also my father had other issues to take care of hence I had to look for a job to cater for all my expenses. Having grown in Iran for the better part of my life it was unusual for girls to work mostly they depended on being provided for hence doing a job for the first time I was not well conversant with managing both my studies and at the same time work hence took me a lot of time to adjust. Regrettably being a perfectionist, I dropped any class I felt I was failing. To avoid this, I have cut down on my expenses so as to save more and talked to my employers so as to create flexibility in my timetable to allow me attend all my classes and at the same time get enough time to study and prepare for all tests so as to excel and have excellent grades. Also having grown in Iran and moved to America when fifteen I had to adapt to using English as my primary language from being used in Persian. This initially affected my grades but to date am well versed in English. This is a reflection of how family obligations, past background, and financial constraints can have an impact on a students grades in a given semester.
