Essay on Nomination Acceptance Speech of Donald Trump

Paper Type:  Essay
Pages:  3

Trump begins his speech by stating his plan of action upon the taking the instruments of power. His introductory remark intends to inform the audience of the changes he would implement after taking office. It does not contain catchy or controversial or humorous statements which are essential in drawing the audience to his attention before actually delivering the speech. However, this style may have been disadvantageous only in the context of the viewers as most of the attendees of the address were his supporters and, therefore, may not need strong opening statements to pay attention.

In establishing the tone, Trump chooses words that have a strong influence in delivering the message to his audience. For instance, he declares that his administration would focus on Americanism and not globalism; that his policies would give issues affecting Americans a top priority. This approach presents him as a candidate who intends to revise policies that benefit the privileged persons in the American society. The emphasis on the interests of Americans is also seen in his choice of words that address non-Republican voters. Notably, he mentions cases of struggling Americans who suffer regardless of their party affiliations. This assures the audience that he would receive votes from even those citizens who had previously supported rival parties and candidates.

The choice of themes is another area that Trump succeeds in his speech. The speech focuses on three important issues affecting the lives of Americans; security, immigration, and the economy. He outlines his plan to enforce laws that protect the countrys borders, fight terrorism and create job opportunities for the unemployed and minority groups. He portrays the Clinton camp as an entity that does not focus on the interests of the majority of the citizens. According to Trump, he represents the downtrodden whereas the Clinton camp represents the interests of the elite. The juxtaposition helps to emphasize his suitability. This resonates well with the audience.

For further emphasis of his message, Trump employs rhetoric and repetition of words that touch on the topical areas of his speech. He calls Clinton a puppet of the powerful and emphasizes that things would not change if she occupies the Whitehouse. These words enable him to connect well with the audience. The connection is evidenced in the applause he receives from the audience and the way he acknowledges their appreciation with a thank you.' As such, he engages the audience, thereby increasing the chances of delivery of his message.

As noted earlier, the speech has an introduction which outlines the speakers agenda. The body and conclusion then follow it in an organized way. Such structure enables the audience to follow the contents of his speech. He gives illustrations on how to tackle the three major issues (immigration, security and the economy) in a sequential manner. This arrangement gives the speech a modicum of order and also makes the speech credible before the listeners. However, Trump often revisits issues already addressed in the previous section which creates a recipe for confusion and misrepresentation.

Signing off the speech is great. The structure and choice of words in the text prepares the audience that the speech is approaching the end. He also uses repetition and the campaign slogan to raise the spirits of the audience. This action enables him to recap the contents of the speech alongside the audience. Such style enhances emphasis and makes a strong case for action through voting.
