In the chapter, there is the analysis of socioeconomic factors in the United States. The chapter carries out an analysis of the factors that affect social and economic welfare of the population, and how such factors relate to social justice. There is the explanation of the meanings of family economics and socioeconomic status of Americans, there is also acknowledgement of existence of poverty in the country and the guidelines that the government stipulates to help in tackling the challenge. Moreover, the chapter examines the relationship between poverty and how it affects the social conditions of the population; this is in addition to highlighting how poverty affects acquisition of education and acquisition of the same to the population. Finally, the chapter elaborates on the role of education on the improvement of social and economic welfare of patients in country. Such is in addition on the role of the right curricular towards the development social aspects of the children for the improvement of social and economic welfare of the population.
A keen examination and reflection of the chapter reveals proves it is a representation of the true American society. One issue that needs to acknowledged is that the minorities are the ones that are under the greatest impact of poverty. I once had a walk in the Black and Hispanic neighborhood and made a comparison with the White neighborhoods, in my walk I decided to visit the White neighborhoods that was some of the poorest and compared with the neighborhoods of the Black and Hispanics. The comparison revealed that the poorest White neighborhoods were richer than even some of the richest Black and Hispanic neighborhood. The revelation was clear; it is the minorities that have the highest levels of poverty in the United States; this is because of the challenges they face in their attempts to acquire jobs and develop themselves.
The other way in which I conquer with information of the chapter is that poverty is directly related to education and that the poor a family is, the less chances the children in a family has in acquiring education. I have come to watch a TV series Everybody hates Chris, the TV show a true depiction of a contemporary Black neighborhood. The TV serious reveals how Chris, a Black high school student has challenges joining college of his choice, and at least joining high school. On the other hand, Chris best friend Greg who is a White boy is easily sponsored to the college of his choice. While Chris parents have challenges sponsoring Chris to college due to lack of finances, despite his father having two jobs, Gregs parents comfortable take him to college of his choice.
Finally, the chapter highlights misconceptions about poverty and the effects of such in the on the economic welfare of the population. I have come to share ideas with people of various social statuses on the idea of poverty and their misconceptions affect their economic wellbeing. It is apparent that the poor are easily misled that they are disadvantaged to change their economic statuses and as such they are unable to change their economic conditions. In this manner, there is the need to acknowledge that there are various myths and misconceptions about economic performance which the population, especially the poor, need to dispense with. Beliefs of individuals greatly affect their economic performance hence their ability to increase their finances.
