Leadership, in all corporations, has a great impact on both the creativity as well as innovation of employees. Additionally, in research focused on determining the effect leadership on the creativity as well as innovation of an organization, it is essential to develop the right methodology of executing the research. This is because it will aid in ensuring that the correct findings of the research questions are attained. This is a research methodology paper aimed at demonstrating the methods, procedures, participants, ethical issues, limitations as well as the proposed method of data analysis to be used for the research.
Method
There are two methods that will be employed in collecting data from the respondents of the research. First, the one-on-one interviews will be employed to interview the selected managers who will take part as participants of the research. Additionally, a survey method will be employed to interview the employees of the organizations that are headed by the identified managers. There are various reasons why a one-on-one interview technique will be essential for interviewing the managers in the sample population during this research. First, it is a data collection stratagem that entails having a direct communication between the interviewer and the respondent CITATION Mar122 \l 1033 (Guffey & Loewy, 2012). In this case, a respondent offers his response to a series of questions prepared in the form of a questionnaire.
The method also allows a researcher to acquire factual data, evaluations, preferences as well as attitudes of the participants during research CITATION Sus13 \l 1033 (Jones, et al., 2013). In this research, the face-to-face interview methodology will be employed by the interviewer to collect the managers responses. Their response will be based on their beliefs and experience on the effect of leadership on the creativity as well as innovation in a corporation. There are three primary reasons as to why this methodology will be immensely effective for this research.
The use of a face-to-face methodology will aid the interviewer to have a more accurate screening of the respondents CITATION Sus13 \l 1033 (Jones, et al., 2013). This means that it will be possible to determine whether the information being provided by the managers being interviewed are valid or erroneous. This is possible because the interviewer can be in a position to analyze the facial expressions made by the respondents while participating in the interview process CITATION Ber09 \l 1033 (Carducci, 2009). Consequently, this will aid in ensuring the validity of the responses attained during the interview process. Additionally, the accuracy of responses when using face-to-face interview is possible unlike when using other methods such as mobile and online surveys.
The second reason why the face-to-face methodology of interviewing will be effective is that it will aid in maintaining the focus of the respondents CITATION Chr141 \l 1033 (Livesey, 2014). During a face-to-face interview, the interviewer is normally in control of the interview process CITATION Chr141 \l 1033 (Livesey, 2014). As such, it is crucial to guarantee that the interviewee remains focused on the responding to the questions asked. Additionally, in other methods such as mobile surveys, the responses can only be attained at a time when it is convenient for the respondents. Moreover, such times could be in the midst of other distractions such as texting, web surfing, emailing and social sharing among others. So as to avoid such distractions that could alter the quality of the research, the face-to-face method will be used to interview the managers that will be the respondents during the research.
The face-to-face method of interviewing will also allow the interviewer to capture verbal as well as non-verbal communication from the respondents. Nonverbal communication characterizes the process of shared signals that goes hand-in-hand with verbal communication CITATION She08 \l 1033 (Cormier, et al., 2008). Some examples of the nonverbal communication include facial expressions, gestures, eye contact as well as postures. In this case, the interviewer will be in a position to capture the managers body language that could indicate their comfort levels when answering various interview questions. Additionally, capturing nonverbal communication may not be possible when using other methods of collecting data such as mobile and online surveys.
In addition to the mentioned advantages of using the one-on-one interview technique in collecting data from the respondents, the survey method will also be employed to collect data from the employees in the sample population. In this case, the type of survey that would be administered to the participants will entail an open-ended questionnaire with ten questions. There are several reasons why this survey technique will be chosen for this research. First, it will allow a large volume of data to be collected from the sample population within a short time frame CITATION Dav151 \l 1033 (McNabb, 2015). It will also be cost efficient when gathering data from a large sample population. In this case, the population sample will be large, as it will constitute of 300 employees.
The open-ended questionnaires will also allow the respondents to offer a wide range of information pertaining to the research question. This is imperative as it will help the research analyst to have sufficient information to employ in formulating the findings of the research. Moreover, the open-ended questions in the survey will allow the employees in the sample population to include their personal attitudes, feeling as well as understanding in responding to the subject matter CITATION Dav151 \l 1033 (McNabb, 2015). It will also be possible for the researchers to attain the true feelings of the employees on the issue at hand. Ultimately, such surveys will be relatively easier to administer in comparison to other data collecting techniques, and they will have few errors since they will be standardized surveys.
Participants
The participants of this research will be managers who are currently serving a leadership position in an organization. This reason for choosing such participants is because they will offer their current experiences on the various forms of leadership they exercise in their organization. Additionally, they will be in a position to relate the various leadership questions asked by the researcher to actual phenomena taking place in their own organizations. Additionally, so as to ensure that sufficient information that can be attained from the research questions, a total of 30 corporate managers will be identified as members of the sample population.
Additionally, since the one-on-one interviewing method will be employed when interviewing the managers, a total 30 managers will be manageable for the research. This is because the number will not be so large to overwhelm the researcher in conducting the interviews. Moreover, the sample population will constitute of the employees from the 30 corporations headed by the identified 30 managers that will also be members of the population sample. Also, a total of 10 employees will be selected from each of the identified 30 corporations to be part of the sample population. As such, there will be a total of 330 participants 30 managers and 300 employees - in the research.
Moreover, there will be several factors that will be considered when selecting the participants of the research. In this case, the managers will be required to have functioned in their respective positions or held similar titles in other corporations for a period of 10 years. Also, to fit for the participants position during the research, they will be mandated to have worked in at least two corporations for a period of 15 years, either in leadership or as employees. On the other hand, the employees who will take part as members of the sample population will be required to have worked in different corporations for a period of at least 5 years.
These qualifications for both the managers and employees will ensure that they have sufficient leadership experience and as such capable of offering beneficial responses to the interview questions. Additionally, there are several factors that will be considered when selecting the corporations where to source the research participants that will take part in the research. The first factor will be the logistics of the identified firms. In this case, the chosen corporations must be within a 20-mile radius from the research headquarters. This will help the researcher to access the sample population participants conveniently and with ease.
The second factor will be budgetary limitations. The identified institutions that will be chosen to obtain the sample population are those that will not require any form of financial compensation for having their staff and employees participate in the research. This is important as this research will not have a budget to provision for such compensations. The third factor that will be considered is the time restrictions. In this case, the organizations that will be chosen are those whose staff members will have sufficient time to participate in the research. This will ensure that all the research activities will be executed as per its predetermined timeline. Ultimately, the other participants of the research will include 2 data analysts and 1 researcher.
Ethical Issues
In research, ethics can be described as the norms of conduct in the research activity that differentiates between right and wrong CITATION Har16 \l 1033 (Haryanto, et al., 2016). Additionally, this research will involve participants that will present both unique as well as complex ethical, political, social and legal issues. As such, the consideration of all ethical issues that are likely to affect this project will be imperative to guarantee the success of the research. There are five primary ethical issues that will be considered during this research.
The first ethical issue is confidentiality. During the research, any information that can be used to identify a participant during the study will not be exposed to the targeted audience of the research. This is because the research will follow a strict standard of anonymity, which will guarantee the respondents that they will stay anonymous throughout the research process. Additionally, so as to further guarantee the anonymity of the participants, the researcher will sign a participants confidentiality legal agreement as a way of reinforcing his confidentiality consent. Ultimately, through honoring this commitment, the researcher will also boost the integrity of perpetrating the research.
The second ethical factor will be informed consent. The research participants will also have an informed consent when participating in the research. In this case, the informed consent will mean that all participants will be fully informed pertaining the procedures as well as the risks involved in research. Additionally, the participants will be required to issue their informed consent to participate in the research. Moreover, the consideration of this ethical issue will be important because the research will be required not to place the participants in a situation that could place them at either a physical or a psychological risk.
The third ethical issue that will be considered in this research is voluntary participation. Additionally, the participants of this research will be required to participate in this research on their own will. This means that the participants will not be coerced by the researcher to participate in the research through...
