The Electoral College is made up of 538 members, and a contesting candidate requires 270 votes for them to be the President of America. The main reason for having the Electoral College was to ensure that the electors would choose the qualified candidate to be the President of the U.S. Currently, there are a number if faithless electors that end up voting for the candidate they did not pledge they will vote for. It has led to a lot of mistrust from some of the citizens because the vote of the electors is the deciding vote. 1820 was the year the democratization wave began. The primary purpose of the wave was to encourage democracy in countries. This meant that the citizens of a country would have the power to elect their preferred citizen to be the president and also represent them in parliament. In 2000 many Americans had democratic institutions set up, and they wanted to do away with the Electoral College, something that was not supported by some of the congressmen (Haynes, Jeffrey). Currently, the decision made by the Framer's on responsible governance comes into play during election periods and in making decisions in parliament. The lawmakers look at the laws set by the framers and make the final decision.
Even though a bill has a long process before it becomes law, it spends most of the time on the floor of the parliament for it to be discussed by the various congressmen who then pass it into law. When the Bill begins, it is proposed and then introduced into the House of Representatives. After the introduction, it is sent to the committee who are experts on the matters concerning the Bill. They discuss on it and then, later on, approve it and send it to the House where the Representatives are for it to be debated on. After debating on it, thy vote and then they forward it to the Senate. If the majority of the Senate approve of the Bill, it is sent to the President who later signs and passes it to become law. While the Bill is passed into law, many at times are marred by different challenges. Sometimes the Bill can lack sponsors because not everyone supports it. But the main problem comes in when it gets to the House of Representatives for debate. Sometimes the bill will not be passed because it does not reach the quota. This is because of the absence of many members of the house. Other times there will be more opposers to the bill, and therefore the bill has to be reviewed. The other thing is in case it gets to the Senate, and not many of the senators support it then it has to be returned to the House for amendment. The difficulty in passing the legislation makes people and the representatives understand the main contents of the law and its impact in case it is passed. One of the things to implement to improve the way we pass laws is to ensure there is punishment for the representatives that will not be present when the laws are passed. This will make sure that the lawmakers are present and pass the legislation on time.
