Introduction

The observation took place at the child's home where I found the kid riding a bicycle. The caregiver aged thirty-five years old was present. The child's room was quite big, spaced and well organized to accommodate a small library, with a medium-sized television and had a playroom where the child would play with the toys. The room was well lighted with big windows, and fresh air would be felt. The child was five years old. He was handsome with blue eyes well fed and had good health just from the looks. He was able to communicate fluently without stammering since the speech was well developed. He was in kindergarten grade level.

The boy named Charlie, but not his real name, was the last born in his nuclear family. He lived with his biological parents and his two siblings in Los Angeles. English was their native language of communication at home. Charlie was friendly, disciplined, talkative, very active and enthusiastic. The boy was able to walk and do things by himself except reaching tall heights. He would only ask for assistance from his parents or the caregiver or even his elder siblings in such circumstances. Therefore, judging from what I observed his capability to feed himself, cutting with child-safe scissors, indicated that his fine motor skills were developed. On the other hand, he would balance himself on one foot and lift heavy objects for example bicycle indicated that his gross motor skills were well developed (Benson, 2012).

In addition to that after he was done with riding the bicycle, Charlie would engage in parallel play where he joined his friend and drew some pictures and colored them just near each other and it seemed more fun to him. However, there was not much talk amongst them, but he seemed more comfortable in that environment. As I said earlier, the child was very social thus making our interaction easier and fun hence making the observation quick and swift. The boy was positive in doing most things and engaged me in asking some questions which I responded. Having observed Charlie's development, play and social skills, the boy loved to play and socialize with any anyone regardless of their races, age or even gender.

Comparing the child's sensory processing development skill with what I observed, the boy has balance and good motor planning skills since he was capable of riding a bicycle. He also engaged in hopping and jumping thus making it easy for one to identify his balance. He would even narrate events that he once attended and sang different songs. When I was conducting the observation, I used a notebook and a pen to record what I observed. I also got the opportunity to and interact with Charlie.

Although he had not mastered properly to write his name, his parents were making efforts to better him in that area. Speech sound articulation was well formed since the boy was capable of saying longer words (Keenan, Evans & Crowley, 2016). The boy had a problem communicating effectively since he deleted some syllables when speaking. For instance, he could say "ephant" instead of "elephant".

Conclusion

In conclusion, the child was capable of taking care of himself. He also portrayed organized development since he was capable of feeding and dressing himself appropriately. He also cleaned his teeth and used the toilet independently. In regards to written communication, Charlie has not yet mastered to write his name correctly hence he needs to be helped in this area.
