In this regard, I needed to talk to him as a business professional who has seen massive success in business and an area of my career path. To learn from Hyer, I had to make a phone call. The interview via call was very inspiring as he took time to explain all the questions I had. Through the interview, I learned that the relationship between a mentor and a mentee is special and needs the mentee to play his/her role well for its success. As a mentee, I had to give back in some way and be an active listener and learner. This made the interview a success as I took advice respectfully. Respectfully interacting with the mentor created a learning and mutual environment that was imperative for the success of the interview. In this regard, I felt confident while engaging Hyer although I was a little nervous at the beginning. The environment enabled me to be free yet professional. Through the discussions, we discussed numerous career choices in business and how to excel in them. Most importantly, we discussed how to be unique in business management and how it facilitates business growth. Being a senior manager at WinCo Foods, Hyer was very resourceful regarding employee management styles. In this regard, I learned how to work with different difficult bosses and how to form healthy business relationships with my juniors.

Conclusion

I learned the importance of interacting with people who have succeeded in the career one aspires. A mentor is a wise and trusted counselor who has massive influence in one's decision making. In this regard, it is important for students to engage mentors more regularly to be molded along the career path. If I were to conduct the interview again, I would seek to meet Hyer in person to have a lengthy discussion. Although the phone call was effective, it was very brief. Also, it is not possible to get one's reactions like facial expressions through the call. In this regard, I would seek a physical interview in future to discuss all questions in details.
