Mountain Bike Background History

Ideally, mountain bike are sporting bikes that were designed for rough terrain. Therefore, it is clear that mountain bikes share some of the similarities with other bikes but they are incorporated with some of the features that make them more unique for moving on rough terrain roads. In the 1800s, mountain bikes that were designed in this period were specifically for the off-road movement and it was exploited by the expedition of the Buffalo soldiers from Missoula. Considering the Swishh military, they happened to use this form of bike regiment in 1891.

In 1900s-1960s, during this period, the bike has grown it popularities and they were being ridden off road by the racing cyclist and by than they used cyclo-cross as mean o keeping their center of gravity during the winter. Later, cyclo-cross grew and became an endeared sport in the 1940s. having that technology by then the French Velo Cross Club Parisien (VCCP), developed a sport that was remarkably akin to present-day mountain biking. The club comprised of about twenty young cyclists.

It was in England in 1968 that Geoff App started the notion of experimenting the design of the off-road bike of the mountain bike. After 10 years, he developed a lightweight custom bike that remained to be unique for moving in muddy and wet condition environment. To sum up, it was not until the late 1970s that off-road industries started manufacturing bikes that deployed high-tech materials such as the M4 aluminum. In that regard, the first mountain bike that was produced was available in the road bike industries in 1979 and it was the Lawwill Pro Cruiser. Observing the above diagram, it is clear that the frame that is used in it is similar to that fabricated by Don Koski from the electrical conduit and the Schwinn Varsity frame.

1. What does it look like? A bicycle is typically a contraption with two equal wheels, a steering bar, and a low chain separating the pedals with a seat for the user. The base of the wheels is painted dark green. Black riding chair and frames.

2. What was it made from? Throughout history, the notion of bikes has been used and manipulated by the types of materials they are made from. From the above diagram, aluminum alloy has been used in the manufacturing of the mountain bike. The main purpose why manufactures deploy this form of material despite the fact that it's not the only material available is because it is light and tends to show signs of high elongation. Evidently, these factors have made this material to be the best candidate form making frames of numerous bikes. Additionally, this form of properties gives mountain bike flexibility and they also exploit low level of fatigue value. In that point of view, this shows that after some time this material will rust ad break. Importantly, currently, bike manufacturers used high technology in aluminum frames to combat them. They tend to achieve this concept by increasing the thickness of the tube in the points that materials are needed most. The bicycle above is made up aluminum frames with iron rims and leather covered tires. Currently, bicycles are made up of exotic materials such as titanium and aluminum to increase the durability of the machine. Delving into the art, an object such as a bicycle can be represented in many ways that can elucidate different meanings. Take, for example, a bike in real life situations.

Joining Process

In the contemporary society, the CFRP frames deployed in the mountain bike are either manufactured by the use of the tubular lugs and the pre-made CFRP by aligning or stacking in the places they are needed. The main reason why manufacturers deploy the CFRP process is that the current form of joining process has been experiencing the corrosion and failing of the materials thus leading to the adoption of the high tech mechanism in fixing the frames. In that regard, constant laminating can be used to cover a mandrel of which the removal of the mandrel gives rise to a shaped tube or hollow section necessary for the specified component. Therefore, this form of technology has been deployed by the various biking industries. This technique creates a monocoque CFRP shell which has superior stiffness, strength and is extremely lightweight; frames lower than one kilogram have been produced.

If one saw a chained bicycle outside a store, there could many possible questions to explain the event of the bike being at its position. Someone may argue that the bike's owner is right inside the shop and will come out as soon they finish their shopping. While such an observation could be right, another person may have a diversified opinion from the made observation. One could argue that the bike is on display waiting for a willing buyer to get inside and check other similar bicycles that are in offer. Still, another person may argue that a particular gender owns the bike, says a lady, due to the observable features. While all the observations could be right or wrong, every observer is justified in their opinion that results to their perception.

Additionally, one may also consider the presentation in play for observation. The object may be just a representation of the object, as a piece of art. The various forms showing the imagery of a bicycle could have different themes due to the fact that different people have a different line of thinking as far as observation technique is a concern. Therefore, that would bring different interpretations upon observation. For instance, someone will observe a bike in conclusion that it is effective for rough terrain while another one can conclude that it is not effective due to the perception of a person on the size of the wheels. Additionally, the very production of the bicycle could result in unique views depending on the artist's hands and his or her intentions in bringing out the message about the bicycle. Take, for example, the frame of the bike. If one compared the real appearance of a bike so there would be differences since the sie of the frame in an image is not the same in a real image of the bicycle but a representation depending on the perception of the artist.

Similarly, a photograph taken on the bicycle's painting could never be similar to the original production of the artist by hand. There will be alterations due to the lighting elements of camera work, the process of producing the image such as imaging and printing, the quality of the camera, the precision of the photographer, among other derivatives. Such alterations will result in different interpretations of the original painting due to the changes at the observation time. In the same plane of imaging a painting, if one decided to photocopy the image, alterations would similarly be evident. This could result from the colors utilized in the production or any other factor as influenced by the parameters utilized.

Still looking into different perspectives that could get realized from an object, various forms of motion could exist during the visualization of the bicycle. While real visualization of an object results to the best experience, its problem is that it cannot be retained for long in the brain of the observer. The importance of using art to represent an action, therefore, becomes inevitable. However, despite the rigorous activities in the time of depicting the actions of a bicycle, they can only be represented in stillness. This is the occurrence of events as if paused or fixated in a particular scene.

Comparing a Bicycle

In its 15th year, the bike has served any purpose and communities meeting different demands. Therefore, the pedal drive machine continues to have a re-evaluation historical influence, which has led to interaction with different cultures and societies. By comparing the different cultures and function the bicycle has served, it is promising to comprehend the basis of comparison for the visual art piece. In this context, this paper will focus on the comparison between dandy horse cycles to mountain bikes and Penny-farthing bikes. In 1818, the dandy horse was a type of bike invented by Karl Von Drais. This invention was an early form of the bicycle that served the purpose of mobility (Longhurst, 2015). The 'running machine' lacked pedals, as such; a rider had to push himself forward using one of their feet on the ground. The Dandy Horse was a predecessor to the bicycle witnessed in the current century. During the 18th century, inventors aimed to devise dissimilar strategies to design human-powered machines that would meet the transport demands.

Dandy Horse Versus Mountain Bike

In their creative work, the inventors ensured to create machines that were easy to maintain, simple to use and efficient in that they would convert human power from the muscles. As a result, the Dandy horse came effective since it relied on human flesh to fasten movement. The Laufmaschine utilized two wheels and human tissue in movements. The rotation of the feet was the primary source of motion when operating the simple machine that did not have a chain, unlike the contemporary bicycles (McKenzie, 2018). Riders sat on the seat and controlled the front wheel with a small handlebar. Riders managed to gain motion by thrusting their feet. After winning the desired momentum, they lifted their feet from the ground and rested while they propelled at the motion of the two wheels. Dandy Horse only gained popularity shortly after its invention since it had many challenges that included shaking the riders in awkward movements.

Mountain bikes are types of bike that remain designed for off-road cycling. Mountain bikes tend to share some of the similarities to other normal bikes despite the fact they have some of the features that stay incorporated among them to make them so different. These features are incorporated in these types of bikes to enhance durability and performance in rough terrain. Penny-farthing was a type of bicycle popular, unlike the Dandy Horse. One would understand that by comparing the two types of bicycles, there was a difference and advancement of technology. Inventors in the 1860s tried to improvise the first bicycles like Dandy Horse, thus, they maximized on design and usability for the riders. The bicycle had a large front wheel with a housed seat. It also had a pair of pedals with a small rear wheel that created stabilities for the users. During its time, the bike had both advantages and disadvantages when compared to Dandy Horse. The Penny-Farthing bicycles were generally faster and pleasant to ride in the rough terrains. They were unpleasant in that mounting and dismounting them was cumbersome and tiring. The bicycle was an extravagant form of transport in the early cities. Therefore, it was a popular transport means for the wealthy working-class men in big towns. These bicycles received popularity in the world since many riders gained pleasure in riding them for sport and as a form of recreational pastime activity. Unlike Dandy Horses, Eugene Meyer invented the Penny-Farthing bicycles in England from where they gained popularity spreading to France. The invention of the big wheel versions in the 1880s ended the significance of the Penny-Farthing b...
