Introduction
People tend to forget what they left behind when they are amidst others or when they find themselves in a group. They forget their siblings and parents, their family background and socioeconomic status, their dignity, autonomy as well as their identity. Some drop and pick their parent any time they feel like, a parent to them is something seasonal. The education sector is one system inhabited by students from different social, religious as well as political backgrounds, and therefore a platform for the confusion above and loss of identity. Some students who come from lower socio-economic background have their parents and guardians go through hell to sustain them. This isn't purely from the parent's status, but the students associate and incorporate themselves in a "class" above their parents earning (Harris & Darby,2009). It is therefore clear that it does not take a financial contribution to help on the financial struggles of parents, but the right amount of self-awareness and acceptability, making maximum utilization of what is at hand, and if necessary, chipping in financially.
One can support a struggling parent by choosing to live not according to how their peers and friends live but according to the margins of the family's finances. This can be so by not demanding too high since by doing so you are putting a lot of pressure to a parent. One should not be ashamed of his parent status or livelihood. A student can also help their parents by ensuring they work hard in school to avoid punishments that may result in pressurizing their parent resulting to stress, avoid being indiscipline and by doing so this will avoid provoking shame to parent even though they are struggling back at home (Smenyak,2012). A student can give words of encouragement to their parent. This help in providing hope to parent and giving them new energy to push on and on.
In a situation where an individual is working, one can decide to chip in and help their aging parents. When one was still schooling, parents burrowed loans in for school fees, and if you fail to assist in catering for some basic financial expenses like food and housing, they may starve or even end up living on the streets. Helping out parents also stop the individuals who loaned your parent money from fulfilling their dark and hidden agendas like taking a property to cater to the debt owed to them (Harris &Darby, 2009). Cutting down on the cost of living is yet another strategy. For instance, if the rent is high, it is logical for one to talk to them about moving to a more affordable house.
Conclusion
It is no secret that the financial expenses that come along with education may be overwhelming to some middle or low-class parents. This is so even with the various governmental interventions. It gets worse when a student by themselves is part of the problem rather than the solution. In many instances, students often feel helpless when it comes to the financial circumstances trailing them. However, that's not the case. By making right life choices, offering unconditional psychological support and chipping in where possible, there is one guarantee, it gets better.
