Introduction
The human thinking functions better if allowed to wander. Think of literature that ends in suspense, therefore, allowing the reader to come up with their version of conclusion. Another example is a movie that gives a post-credits scene to spark imagination among its audience. All these are examples of artistry relying on imagination to provide us with a better experience of the book or movie. Fantasy and imagination work in tandem because imagination always carries some level of fiction or fantasy. Even the Bible relies on imagination to help its readers better understand the scriptures. Fantasy fits into human experience by filling in the gaps that exist on human existence (Mathews, 2002). Fantasy helps provide answers to some questions that humans do not have the answers to. The bible does not have all the answers for some of the most pressing human problems. To make up for this deficit, it prompts human imagination and fantasy.
The human culture is full of fantasy. Science and technology, for example, is one aspect of human culture that is very dependent on fiction and fantasy. Most of the technology we see today were once someone's fantasy. Some were fiction as the world tried to envision how the future would look. Entertainment is also another part of human culture that has fantasy and fiction. Another example of the use of imagination in entertainment is video games. Some video games have taken real aspects of human life and turned them into fantasy while others create new objects and fantasy realities. Fantasy and fiction are present in movies, songs, and novels. There are even tourist sites that emulate fantasy. Disney land, for example, is a real-life theme pack that mimics fantasy reality. Such use of fantasy and fiction in entertainment are essential to building human imagination. According to (Lafevers, 2010), fantasy helps to feed the human sense of wonder and develops imagination. Imagination is crucial to creativity, especially in children. Fiction helps to feed the curiosity of the human minds enabling humans to explore a new concept. Lafevers (2010) mentions quantum physics and the idea of flight as examples of concepts that began as fantasy and are now essential aspects of human reality.
One area that has unknowingly benefited from fantasy and fiction is faith. Most of the faith lacks scientific proof or backing. The same applies to fantasy because they require evidence. However, people are entitled to have faith because they are also allowed to fantasize. The concept of religion is built on belief because religion does not have all the answers. Most of religion relies on a person's ability to envision an idea based on what the scriptures and hold onto this idea. One does not have to believe in the reality of fantasy. Therefore, religion began as a fantasy that was meant to feed the mind's curiosity and eventually it became people's reality.
The story of Harrison Bergeron is a fiction of the future. There is no way to be sure of what will happen in the future, but we work on probability instead. Most of the items in the story such as the shotgun, the television are real-life objects. This story plays into my assignment by showing an example of a fictional story. The events in the story are not impossible. Most of them have a good chance of coming to pass. For example, a society where everyone is the same is not outside possibility because some of the concepts like communism are currently researching on the possibility of such a community.
