Introduction

Two main models closely match my teaching philosophy. The models are the Montessori model and the Reggio Emilia model. Region Emilia curriculum model is founded on the belief that if students are allowed to take a lead in learning they develop an interest in learning and internalization. The curriculum is mainly designed with projects that reflect on the interest of the learners and the teachers are charged with observing the spontaneous curiosity of the learners and guide the students to create projects that reflect on their goals (Biermeier, 2019). Reggio Emilia model teaches the children to learn through their mistakes, emphasize creativity and innovation. On the other hand, the Montessori model is based on the assumption that children should be considered as individual learners and the duty of the teachers is to guide them (Wien, 2014). Even though the children are engaged in various hands-on activities, their play materials are age appropriate and objectively chosen. The main strength of the Montessori is that it fosters personal responsibility and the students learn at their own pace.

How I Will Address the Difference Between the School Curriculum and My Teaching Philosophy

The most effective way to address the differences is by integrating my teaching philosophy (Montessori model) with the school's curriculum. The Montessori would only be used to lay foundation while the school's curriculum would be adopted. However, as a teacher, I will investigate if the school's curriculum is founded on the developmentally appropriate practices (Wien, 2014). A competent teacher must be in a position to conducts action research to determine what needs to be improved. If the research results prove that the school's curriculum is not effective, I will guide the school's administration on curriculum change or improvement. Every school should understand that learning and continuous improvement is necessary especially in the area of curriculum development and implementation.

Response to Jamie Fulmer

I agree with your argument that creative curriculum is easy to integrate with the new school's curriculum. However, I would like to add that the school might not allow you to integrate the creative curriculum with their curriculum. Therefore, you should first explore how the schools will react and convince the school that there is a need to integrate the creative curriculum with the school's curriculum. Additionally, it is important to determine if the school's curriculum is not effective before introducing the creative curriculum. The goal during curriculum choice should be to adopt the most effective approach to model.

Reply Courtney Wilson

Hi Courtney Wilson. I agree with you because as a teacher, you have a duty to fulfill the requirement f the new position. It is the duty of the teacher to adjust to the school's job description first before making a case for or suggesting the need to adopt the creative curriculum r integrate the school's curriculum with your creative curriculum. Working with the school administration and curriculum officer to improve the school curriculum is important instead of integrating the personal philosophy without communicating the need to the curriculum officer.
