Introduction
Baylor Scott & White is the largest not-for-profit healthcare system in Texas and one the largest in the United States. Baylor Scott & White was born in 2013 from a merger between Baylor Healthcare System and Scott and White Healthcare. As of 2018, Scott and White have 48 hospitals, 800 patients care sites, over 7,800 active physicians, 47,000 employees and the Scott & White Health Care Plan (White, 2018). Since Baylor-Scott was founded as a Christian ministry dedicated to healing, the organization's mission is to the wellbeing of families, communities and individuals. Their main objective to become a trusted leader, educator and innovator in value-based care delivery, customer experience and affordability (White, 2018). The core organizational values include serving faithfully, acting honestly, refusing to settle and unity.
The organization's strategies for achieving its mission and objectives is to transform into a healthcare network that consistently provides exceptional care. They also build experience for their people to design and deliver the customer for life experience, so that they can become a market leading brand. They also improve affordability by innovating their cost-discipline, and invest in their mission to reduce the financial burden on their customers. They also ensure a consistent result by adopting a streamlined leadership approach and a unified operating model. They endure growth by pursuing sustainable growth initiatives that provide support for their strategy, mission and help the organization meet its objectives.
One of the practices of Baylor Scott & White is that they collect stories of their patients and share them with others to act as an inspiration to live a life of compassion and service to others. The organization has over 6.6 million patient encounters annually. The organization provides a full range outpatient, inpatient, rehabilitation and emergency services in 48 of its hospitals and over 800 of its patient access points. They also have community involvement that includes outreach programs where they focus on compassionate care and quality. The organization invests in valuable programs for the uninsured, underserved and most at-risk populations such as the homeless people and immigrants (BaylorScott & White Health, 2018).
My relationship with Baylor Scott & White is one that is personal. I have received treatment in one of their hospitals. I loved their services and think that it is the best treatment I have ever received in any hospital. I am also an admirer of their mode of operations. Most of their services are streamlined in a way that improves efficiencies while decreasing the cost of operation. The majority of the workers don't complain about the conditions of work. I know this because my brother works there. He says that Baylor Scott & White should be the preferred choice for any medical practitioner that is looking for employment.
Their compensation packages are fair. Other than the salary they offer their employees other benefits that are beneficial not just to the employees but their family members as well. I am a beneficiary of these benefits because I have a family member that works at the organization. Most of the benefits come in the form of healthcare plans that the employees and their families receive. The organization provides free health services to the immediate family members of their employees. In a country that is lagging behind its peers in terms of healthcare provision, the Baylor Scott & White organization is doing more than its fair share to improve healthcare (World Health Organization, 2018). They are innovating in all areas of health including sports (Maddox, 2018).
