Introduction

A Picot is a statement regarding evidence-based practices to collect information from various aspects for the literature review. The critical elements of a picot include; population, interventions, comparison, outcome and duration of time. The picot can either be an intervention focusing on treatment of an illness, etiology dealing with the origin of disease, diagnosis aiming at methods or cause of disease, prevention which entails a reduction in risk and prognosis picot that predicts the route of infection among others (Boswell & Cannon, 2018).

In our scenario is a preventive picot. It emphasizes on devising home-based intervention plan through exercising and developing active homes to care for patients at risk and preventing risks of falling rather than hospital admissions. The preventive picot best fit in the scenario as it focuses on eliminating the risk of falling by establishing rather than identifying the cause or the diseases pertaining falls.

The picot in question contains the following components:

Participant Population

The population refers to specific individuals targeted for therapy. Our picot focuses on patients above 65 years of age in the community. It determines particular interventions attributed to the rate of falling among a specific population, not the young or operated but the old within the society. It informs on of age, race, gender, and people with any disability. Falling is attributed to many factors such as environmental dangers, physical activities and muscle weakness. Our picot focuses on the old age as a risk factor in falling associated with the loss of stability, memory losses and other physical challenges. Gender could not suit the population since dropping cuts across the whole gender both male and female (Edmunds, 2016).

Intervention

They are the preventive measures aimed at reducing the risk of falling among the old. Information on medication or change of lifestyle aiming at reducing the rate of falls is guaranteed. Interventions can be single, multiple or multifactorial. The hospital interventions include taking care of the wounds as a result of falling and giving medication as a form of only response. Various interventions encompass medicine and monitoring exercise among patients to reduce falls. The multifactorial interventions cover both single and various interventions in addition to education to patients and assessing risks of falling (Heller & Rulik, 2016).

Comparison

The statement aims at comparing one preventive care measure to another to determine the effectiveness of the care. From the scenario, the hospital cared for patients who had injuries as a result of falls but had no impact in reducing the rate of falls. The picot aims at comparing the hospital therapy to home-based involving exercise and building of safe homes to lowering the price of falling. It is noted assessing the risk of falling, and elements predisposing the old to fall at home highly reduces hospital admissions. It's an evidence-based comparison where own patient education on dangers, lifestyle, and risk factors reduce falling.

Outcomes

The outcomes are expectations we aim at achieving by devising an action plan to reduce the rate of falling. They are mainly measured in the form of mortality, decrease or increase in falling, hospital admissions and the extent to which the therapy is integrated on daily life basis. The outcome is essential in budgeting and attracts more investments if it's a positive outcome. In our case, we opt to reduce the rate of falling, hospital calls, admissions and mortality from savior injuries. The decrease in mortality rate can fit in the picot as an outcome, but it's not the primary cause of the intervention since we aim at reducing the high standards of falls.

Time

Time acts a baseline in monitoring progress of intervention; it specifies the duration an intervention takes to achieve the desired outcomes. It focuses on observing the participants under the response and determining the effectiveness of the plan by comparing data collected with the existing number per year. The time frame of one year is set to validate the impact of the intervention, weighing the positive against the negative to ascertain its importance (Broad G, 2016).

Conclusion

The knowledge of the picot statement governs the researcher on the correct identification of a problem, possible solutions and outcomes to the problem within a specified period, has dramatically impacted on the reduction on fall rate. Accurate assessment and information to the patients improve their awareness on risks of falls aiming at achieving the expected outcomes.
