The work plan for the practicum is to have a mosquito control program where mosquito nets will be distributed to expectant mothers who come for maternity routines in public hospitals in Abelene-Taylor County Public Health District. This is one way in which mosquito control will be affected in the county (Naranjo et al., 2014). The action will be to ensure that mothers who visit public hospitals in the county will be mosquito nets which will be hoped that it will help them to control malaria prevalence in the most vulnerable population, mothers and children. This will take place for one year, starting January 2017 running till December of the same year.

The project aligns well with the vision and mission of the Abelene-Taylor County Public Health District. Their mission is to ensure that they have reduced the prevalence of vector-borne diseases. With the use of mosquito nets, the spread of vector-borne diseases will be eliminated.

The project will impact public health in that expectant mothers will have an improved safety from malaria causing agents. Expectant mothers will sleep and be safe from mosquito bites together with their babies. It is expected that the mothers will use the mosquito nets with the babies that they might have. The deaths that are experienced due to malaria that has been spread from mosquito bites will be reduced and eliminated altogether.

There are cultural aspects that come with the use of mosquito nets in the program. One of the challenges that are associated with culture is when there will be the need to treat the mosquito nets with insecticides (Benelli, 2015). Most of the local community supposed beneficiaries will not be willing to take their nets for retreatment because of the belief that the insecticide is poison. There is the growing concern on the use of insecticide on mosquito nets. The users have the notion that the insecticide has some effects on them. Also, the process of taking the nets for retreatment will be affected by the activities and availability of the users to the center. It will be a challenge and the efficiency of the nets will drop significantly if they will not be treated with the chemicals.

One professional issue of the program will be how to find distributors who will have the skills to mix the insecticide professionally and in the right proportions.

The future role of the site practicum will be to handle the distribution of insecticides for treating the mosquito nets. It will also be important to know which participants have taken part in the exercise. At the moment, the nets are distributed to all the mothers who come for maternity checkup. It is assumed that the mothers have not had these mosquito nets and everyone will be given because they have not been given the mosquito nets. I am hoping that I will be the manager of the division so that I will be the one handling all the net distribution and the treatment of the nets. I will ensure that the records have been kept well so that the nets that have been treated are labeled well. I will also manage community workers who will help me distribute the nets. I will be able to monitor them and have them follow the laid out structures and guide in the whole process. I would be able to know the whole way to be corrected.
