The first step towards conducting a study is identifying a topic. The inspiration for a topic could come from anywhere, either through observation, reading, perusing the internet, or watching television (Sternberg, 2003). Once the topic and problem that needs research have been identified, it is important to ensure its relevance and then look for other similar studies that may have a relationship with the topic in question. The relationships are identified through having somewhat similar topics. Indeed, although a topic may be specific about an area of study, the overall or wider perspective may be similar for different studies (Mligo, 2016). The relationship could also be identified by using a Venn diagram that compares and contrasts different studies ideas identifying the relationships that exist among them. A Venn diagram consists of two or more overlapping circles each standing for a study. The central area where these circles overlap identifies common traits and relationship among the studies (Sternberg, 2003).

The themes or questions to compare for researches can be gotten from the literature review of these articles. A synthesis of ideas that identifies themes and gaps in the literature reviews is a good way of capturing these (Mligo, 2016). Another part of the article is the discussion part as it discusses the findings of the research. It identifies what the research has identified, and here, one can get the general idea of what the research's theme is all about. The conclusion and recommendation section of a study is also important as it brings a summary of the whole paper and provides solutions for the gaps that are existent. The solution may be a question, or it may follow a theme altogether. The information is beneficial and of great importance to the topic as it helps the researcher conduct research on a relevant field that has good information to review, has not been over-researched and will fill gaps and offer solutions when it is completed (Sternberg, 2003).
