Disaster in an occurrence or an event or natural catastrophe that causes immense damage as well as loss of life. An emergency situation on the other hand, is a sudden occurrence that requires more than usual attention from the local but can be managed with the available resources (Zhong, 2014). Looking at recent years, it is true to say that there have been developments in the healthcare sector to make sure that there are adequate frameworks to aid in the development of disaster preparedness and management within the health care sector and also within healthcare workers. High scope of the disaster management and preparedness ordains order in the way that emergency is dealt with and ensure that minimum time is utilized in addressing the emergencies reported in the health care system.
The department for national planning has been mandated the power to lay down the framework for disaster preparedness and response. The speediness in response to disasters plays a major role in determining the management of the disaster (Pourhosseini, 2015). In order for disaster management and preparedness to be effective, special concern has to be given to healthcare workers and health care institutions. Health care systems and workers play a major role in during disasters and emergencies.
In an emergency or a disaster even, the most need service to the public is healthcare services. Recent studies have stated that one of the main components of disaster management is healthcare and healthcare services. The first duty of the healthcare workers in a disaster situation is the provision of the much-needed healthcare service and provisions CITATION POU15 \l 1033 . In the event of a disaster, the health care system in the management is tasked with the duty of managing the nutrition of the persons affected by the disaster or emergency. In most disaster situations, the supply of food is low and there is a need to make sure that people are kept healthy so as to reduce an increase in casualties due to poor nutrition.
The healthcare workers and institutions aid in keeping the lines of communication open in the event of a disaster so as to update on the state of affairs (Pourhosseini, 2015). Looking further into their communication roles the health care workers and institutions re supposed to educate and train the general public on the nature of the disaster if it is unknown to them. The health care workers are also tasked with the duty to train a few civilians to give a supportive hand in case of disaster. Through this, healthcare systems are able to manage and mitigate disasters as well as emergency situations within the immediate time of response.

From the article, it can be seen that when there was a breakout of the Ebola virus in the West African Region, there was a need for other nations to aid their medical staff in to assist in the management of the disaster. From the article, medical staff was sent from Ghana to Liberia to aid in the management of the outbreak.
The article brings to light the fact that disaster preparedness is essential for health care workers in the management of a disaster. Article shows that, the training and preparation of health care workers is essential in the management and mitigation process (Nick, 2015). The preparedness of healthcare workers plays an important role in the management of a disaster because it helps in creating an understanding of the disaster among health care workers beforehand. In summary, the article shows that disaster preparedness among healthcare workers helps in the efficient management of a disaster.
