Introduction

The human service profession is concerned with the meeting of human needs through maintaining a commitment to improving the quality of life of service population (Thompson, 2019). It is also defined as the unique approach that uses interdisciplinary knowledge and focuses on the remediation and prevention of problems to improve the quality of human life. A social service professional is one who promotes the delivery of improved service systems. They address both the quality of the services and look to improve the accountability, coordination, and accessibility of services among agencies and professionals as they deliver services. It is therefore essential that we focus on the various tasks that are related to one becoming a human service professional

The first task as a social service professional is to help individuals, families, and communities to overcome their problems as well as helping improve the quality of life. In my first week at the rainbow house, I learned how to put different screenings into the computer in a procedure referred to as the ETO first step-parent and child screening. These screenings are done to help mothers who have just given birth. The task involves putting the various information obtained from the testing, after which I would assess if the mother were eligible or not. For one to be considered suitable for help, they must be from the Houston county area. Those from other areas were deemed not qualified. Information of the mothers was stored in the ETO if the mother was willing to engage in the program. For those from other regions, their screenings are filed away, and their details dismissed from the system. After screening, the next activity is to put that day's tested mothers into an excel spreadsheet. The process involves inputting the same information that was on the screenings into the spreadsheet. From here, the next step is to separate the eligible families from those that were not eligible and file them in their respective folders.

Another task as a human service professional is to create folders that contained information that would be delivered to the mothers. To complete this task as recommended, I must visit the hospital to understand the things the mothers' experience. I then document the information on the screening sheet. Also, there is a need to notify the mothers about the various insurances available whether they needed them or not. The next step is to transfer the information on the screening to the ETO and into the excel spreadsheet. The data is filed in the correct folders so that when the mother gets another child, she will already have a file from the previous screen. The task also involves handing mothers brochures that contain vital information. Some of the information in the brochures includes the correct position to put a baby when sleeping, breastfeeding information, emergency physicians, and other crucial details. All this information was to help mothers protect their newborn from harmful things and to prevent child neglect and abuse. As a human service professional, I assisted in passing out the folders to the mothers and going through the folders with the mothers.

The other task carried out by human service professionals is going for home visits accompanied by home visitors and their families. It is crucial that you arrange the things to give the mothers a good criterion. The criteria are arranged on different milestones though it is the same for all home visitors. For example, the requirements when working with a mother having a two-month-old baby is different from that of a mother having a six-month-old baby. The criteria are given to the mothers as a way of motivating them. They also act as a teaching method to teach them about the things they need to do for their babies to complete their milestones. To carry out this activity successfully, one must have information about each family. As a home visitor, one must be on the lookout for things that may not be good for the baby in the household and advice the mother accordingly. It is good to set goals that as a visitor, you need to achieve in your visit. These goals will assist you in coming up with engaging activities that encourage active participation of the visitor as well as the mother.

Another task that human service professionals engage in is updating notebooks to accommodate the changes that may have occurred recently. The journals have different colors for each section. There is also needed to discuss with each other to come up with better activities that will assist in the provision of services. Brainstorming is an essential aspect in the human service providers as it helps create better ideas of service delivery (Fleming, 2018). There is also a need for evaluation to ensure that the services provided are of the standard quality. Coming up with activities to do with the mothers is a task that all human service providers must undertake. It helps one become creative, open-minded, receptive, and flexible. It also improves your communication skills as well as create diversity.

The next activity carried out by human service providers is evaluation. The evaluation is carried out through the asking of questions to determine how well the services are being delivered. The supervisor asks each staff member on the things that should be done for each child to improve their living conditions. Evaluation is essential as it helps the management know how well their program is and the aspects that need to be improved. The assessment also helps to determine if there are any improvements in the child's state after the visits. It also helps determine how cell the mother is connecting with the child. Evaluation helps the management know what exactly is happening in the lower levels. It also helps the company come up with better strategies for providing their services. It also helps determine the areas where improvement is needed to increase effectiveness concerning the objectives. Evaluation creates room for growth, assertiveness, and empowerment. It means that evaluation enables people to identify the areas that they need to address more or need to improve on.

The other activity carried out by human service providers is the holding of conferences and webinars. There is also going through the curriculum for the activities to be carried out during the home visits. There is a need to make plans and write notes on the week's events. Conferences and webinars help fathers get involved in the lives of their children and allow the fathers to talk about their experiences in the upbringing of their children. The conference also instills knowledge on the fathers that will enable them to play their role effectively in the raising of the child. It allows them to know how to handle the children in situations that the mother needs their help. Human service professionals are very organized in their work. They plan their work early, allowing them to identify the things they need correctly as they carry out their duties. This activity's main objective was to strengthen the support within the fathers of the children.

Another activity carried out by human service professionals is welcoming the couples who come to the agency for the weekly events. The couple opted to go to the agency rather than having the home visit at their home. The same activities were carried out at the agency to ensure the child's welfare was well catered for. The other task carried out by human service professionals is ensuring the safety of the mothers. Whenever there is a situation at home, the mother can't go back to her house. The human service providers organize a place for her to stay. The visit to the agency by the couple is an enjoyable experience as it exposes the mother to the things she needs to do. The agency has provided a pleasant environment for the mother and child where they can feel like they are at home. The event where the human service providers organize a safe place for the mother shows that the mother and the service professional have developed a good bond. The mother is free to call the home visitor whenever she experiences a problem. The home visitor, on the other hand, is willing to help and calls around to look for a safe place for the mother.

Conclusion

Human service professionals are essential in the delivery of optimal services to society. The professionals need to understand the various problems the community members experience and help them overcome the issues. The human service professionals' role is essential as they help take care of the less fortunate in society from children to the elderly. They help create an optimal environment where positive results are most likely to happen.
