Reason for carrying out the research
The reason I would like to conduct this research is to help assess the importance of electronic health records in improving healthcare quality and patient safety. This research will encourage healthcare institutions to use electronic health records as an avenue to improve care and quality.
Definitions of terms
Healthcare Technology
Technology in healthcare refers to the collection of techniques, skills, methods and processes through which technological applications or theory is directly applied to deliver healthcare services.
Electronic health records
Electronic health records refer to a form of technology that enables healthcare organizations to collect and store patient information which is used in future patient visits.
Cloud computing
This refers to the use of data collected through the electronic patients records to make administration and other important decisions for a healthcare organization.
Topic significance
Electronic health records is a novel technological application that is being used widely in American and other healthcare systems in the world. Technology has significantly transformed the practice and delivering of health care services. This study will establish the importance of electronic health records in relationship to its costs. Many healthcare organizations and government agencies are encouraging healthcare and insurance companies to establish electronic health records whereas there is significance worry of misuse of this information and also the risk of patients privacy in case these records are leaked out to the long people (Jensen et al. 2012).
Variables
- Electronic health records increase patients safety in the delivery of healthcare services.
This variable will establish the relationship between patient safety and the use of patient health records
- Electronic health records reduce the privacy and safety of the patients.
Non-directional hypothesis
In this study, a non-directional hypothesis will seek to establish the positive and the negative implications of the use of technology in healthcare such as electronic health records. A non-directional hypothesis seeks to establish both the positive and negative implications of the use of electronic health records
Directional hypothesis
What are the advantages of using electronic health records in American healthcare institutions? On the other hand, a directional hypothesis seeks to establish a specific hypothesis that the electronic medical records will have positive implications on healthcare delivery.
Collaboration in research
This research will require the collaboration of different stakeholders in healthcare who are directly affected by the use of electronic health records. Nurses, doctors, and healthcare administrators, as well as insurance companies, use electronic medical records to make important healthcare decisions. Hence, collaboration in this research will deliver better and more authentic results.
