Introduction

I am doing an internship as an administrative, managerial restaurant assistant intern at Guards Polo Club. Being put in this area, the jobs were supposed to undertake are those of the restaurant assistant manager. The responsibility at this position is summarized into the management of payrolls and contracts, supervision of staff performance, ordering of equipment and utensils needed. The activities that revolve around these main subheadings are many such as management of store vendors, communication coordination, record keeping, arrangement for employee training, etc.

These areas to be covered align with my aspirations and expectations of this course since for one to be successful in hospitality management, he or she must be familiar with the operations of the restaurant and have proper knowledge and understanding of what makes a better customer service (Kay, 2000).

The main method of delivery is field experience through 'hands-on' learning. This is any simple work given to handle be it taking records for store vendors. The practical experience is achieved by taking part in the actual work. Other methods of information delivery include observation of the operations taking place in the setting (Petrillose, 1997). Hospitality internship for me is a fun training and networking experience, oral learning from the staff is also another important of delivery.

This internship has all the importance of gaining work experience in the field of hospitality and management, and this is proportional to the development of core competencies for this career. The student must have real-world experience in the hospitality and management field before graduation and pursuit of the career (Solnet, 2009). The positions can vary from reservations coordinator for a front desk agent or a cruise line at the restaurant to a hotel ticket agent or restaurant server at the main park. So long as work experience is gained within the hospitality or tourism industry, the competencies are fulfilled.
