History Transformation of Ceramic Designing in Jingdezhen
Jingdezhen has one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world. The soil in Jingdezhen used for pottery for over two thousand years (Burrison, 2017). The ground facilitates porcelain and other ceramics designing. The excellent soil texture of Jingdezhen enables easy pottering of porcelains, which are sold globally. The history of pottery and ceramic in Jingdezhen evolves daily. The composition of technology and art has led to the pottery of excellent products in Jingdezhen (Klose & Schrire, 2018). The excellent pottering has earned Jingdezhen a unique identity as a city of art. Improvement in technology also modifies the ceramic design. This research proposal aims at analyzing the history and development of the model of ceramic products in Qing dynasty. A primary focus will be on the folk culture and ancient kiln in Jingdezhen, China. The research proposal has incorporated some of the research questions that will be used for the study. The history of ceramic designing in Jingdezhen has significantly been transformed over time.
Research Questions
Research questions are the problems of the study that require a solution (Low, 2018). The resolution of the issues is accomplished when study questions conform to the objectives upon completion of the survey (Luckman & Thomas, 2018). Some of the research questions that will be for the study include:
- What factors facilitated the start of pottery and design of ceramics in Jingdezhen and how challenging is the ceramic designing industry?
- What is the difference between ancient time and present time teaching of the skills of art in pottery in Jingdezhen
- What is the influence of technology on the design of ceramic and the whole pottery industry in Jingdezhen, China?
- What are the social, political, and economic significance of the pottery industry and ceramic design industries in Jingdezhen?
- What aspects are used to determine the beauty and price of the ceramics in Jingdezhen?
Research Objectives
The objectives of the study are the achievements that the research intends to accomplish (Xie & Tian, 2017). Research objectives aim to summarize the study a researcher is carrying out. Research objectives are answered upon completion of the survey (Zhang & Huang, 2018). In understanding the historical transformation of the ceramic designing in Qing dynasty, Jingdezhen, China, some of the goals that need to be achieved are listed below.
- To examine the factors that necessitated the start of the pottery and ceramic design in Jingdezhen and the challenges facing the potters.
- To establish the difference in how pottery and ceramic design skills were taught in ancient times and the current teaching technique.
- To substantiate the influence of technology on the pottery and ceramic design industry in Jingdezhen.
- To establish the political social, and economic importance of the pottery and ceramic design industry in Jingdezhen, China.
- To examine some of the elements that are used in establishing the beauty and price of the ceramics in Jingdezhen, China.
Literature Review
The presence of fine soil texture is what primarily enhanced the beginning of concentration of porcelain and ceramic designing in Jingdezhen. The fine soil has enabled the town to become China's porcelain capital (Gillette, 2016). Ceramic designing in Jingdezhen began in the early years of one thousand and four to the present. Jingdezhen has been affected by the manufacturing of porcelain over time, especially during the twentieth century. The Chinese government has been the primary investor in ceramic design in Jingdezhen. The government is hence controlling a more significant portion of the production. Ceramic designing is currently one of the primary economic activities in Jingdezhen (Gillette, 2016). The residents have embraced designing of ceramics, which earns them a living hence sustaining the residents. The ceramic designing also makes the Chinese government revenue, which is an outcome of the tax levied on the pottery products (Gillette, 2016).
Gillette Boyd Maris has intensively studied on the history of ceramic designing in Jingdezhen since its establishment. The author highlights how the Jingdezhen ceramic industry and the residents have been affected when designing the porcelains (Zhang & Yang, 2016). The author traces how technology has modified the ceramic designing industry since its introduction in Jingdezhen to the current times. The author also explicitly describes how the Chinese government has invested and benefited massively from the ceramic designing in Jingdezhen over time (Hart, 2018).
The author's primary limitation is that she has failed to mention how the ceramic designing industry has contributed to the GDP of China. She has merely described the effect of ceramic designing on the health of the residents. The environmental degradation, which is an outcome of pottery, has been left out in her research (Kraft, 2018).
Significance of the Study
Upon completion of the study, the recipient of the data will be able to comprehend the elements that facilitated the start of pottery and ceramic design in Jingdezhen. The recipients will understand how pottery skills were taught to the following generations in the past and the current form of teaching pottery (Richards, 2018). The users of the information will be able to evaluate the difference in the previous and the current way of teaching pottery. The users will also benefit from the study outcome by understanding how technology is influencing modification of ceramic design in Jingdezhen (Zhan, Walker, Hernandez-Pardo, & Evans, 2017).
The study will also highlight the social, economic, and political importance of the pottery and ceramic design industry in Jingdezhen. The highlighting of the economic significance of ceramic designing is valuable information for the recipients of the data in understanding the pottery market. The recipients of the data will also comprehend the elements that are used in pricing the ceramic designs. Hence, enabling him or she knows the value of every model available in the market (Yin, 2017).
Research Methodology
The team will use a qualitative research method to evaluate data during the study. Under the qualitative research technique, the team will be able to analyze both verbal and non-verbal responses from the respondents (Flick, 2018). The data will be examined in detail hence assessing all the study aspects. Qualitative research methodology also enhances openness. Therefore, the researcher can include other vital elements which are omitted in the study but are significant for the achievement of the goals of the study. Both primary and secondary sources of data will be used to collect data. The primary data collection methods include interviews and observation, and interviews. The secondary techniques include library research and credible internet sources (Brace, 2018).
Conclusion
Jingdezhen has quickly risen to become Chinas porcelain capital. This research proposal highlights some of the research questions and objectives which the study intends to achieve. The project also highlights the significance of the study to the recipients. The literature appraisal and the research system to be used for the study have also been discussed in detail the impact of diverse Chinese artifacts in their culture.
