Introduction
The book, 'For Bread Alone' by Mouhamed Choukri is based on straightforward encounters and the quick worries of regular people as they go about their daily lives. The book richly describes and engages the reader about the society in Morocco in the face of independence. 'For Bread Alone' is an externally corrupt story, even by the symbol entrenched in its name. The outcome is convincing as opposed to discouraging, a strikingly vital record of life in the Moroccan proletarians. Choukri compiles a realistic autobiography that obliges the reader to institute the cosmopolitan adjective connected to Tangier with the aspect of being Cosmo political.
Since Choukri's self-encounters of destitution, hunger, lack of education, residential maltreatment, exploitation of children, vagrancy, wrongdoing, viciousness, detainment, dependence on medications and liquor, sexual parties and male prostitution, which give the framework to his abstract profession (Choukri 110). The narrator offers little to connect with the broader world besides peripheral engagement in the 1952 rioting of independence. The author investigates such disputable issues as sexuality, homosexuality, prostitution, narcotic or liquor addictions and many more (Choukri 112). Choukri's narrative is founded on solid narrative and has characters making appearances and disappearing without warning or any explanation from the narrator.
Similar to Mouhamed Choukri's perception of life and the things men do to earn a living, "Disciples of Passion" by Hoda Barakat presents a tale of cri de Coeur that occurs in the glare of the clergy at an insane church-run asylum (Barakat 36). The novel follows a series of charged events including mortar attacks; murder and kidnapping which further complicate the plot, offering the reader anything but a proper plot of a story (Barakat 41). By expounding on what Choukri saw, and underwent each day, he gives some centrality and reason to his life and offered a sharp investigate of the ills of Tangier and Moroccan culture everywhere, a general public he saw enjoyed a wide range of improper conduct in discretion yet would not convey such conduct to the public knowledge.'
The book, 'For Bread Alone', epitomizes the life of youth whose family has to endure the famine and starvation by fleeing to Tangier. Most of the siblings in the family die either of starvation, abuse or neglect (Choukri 56). However, the primary focus on the narrator survives child abuse from his father, the dangers of the streets and the pangs of hunger. Although the story speaks of a particular Moroccan youth, it relates to many other young people who have to endure the same calamities in other parts of the world and whose stories go untold. The young Moroccan literally does all man can do including petty theft, alcohol and drugs, theft and prostitution as well as begging on the streets to earn his bread alone,
Overall, both the novels, 'For Bread Alone' and 'Disciple of Passion' allude to the virtue of being human and all the things that a human being is willing to do to survive. Both stories explain the impossible tale of people who have had to go to the extremities to survive all at the expense of their reputations, dignity and their lives. However, it is written in a self-evident reality manner, utilizing slight, basic jargon and discussion, and the contemplation and encounters of the melancholy Mohamed appear to be completely regular.
