Introduction

Robinson Crusoe is a character in Daniel Defoe's book. Robinson Crusoe is a Youngman who goes into a search for his career. The career he wants is different from the one his family wants. Crusoe wanted to study aquatic adventures while his family wanted him to study law. He is rebellious to the family. He already had an undeveloped view of God and his subsequent departure from home to run from his family and pursue his dreams further damages his already lousy picture of God. Godless sailors make it wrong, and his belief is wholly withered. In matters of providence, Crusoe's assessment is unclear (Defoe, 2010). God's justice is labelled merciless by Crusoe at this time instead of merciful. He thinks God is unforgiving. As time goes by, Crusoe's immature faith gets nurtured during his time on the island. His consideration of divine providence changes to repentance and he converts. By the end of his stay on the Island, he believes in a loving God.

In Crusoe's vision dream, he realizes that repentance is proper. His dream at night and the shipwreck event create an environment for him to appreciate God's deliverance of him into the island. He realizes his ingratitude while in tears after waking up. After realizing that he had a stupidity of soul, his prayers now turn to be thankful to God. It is a complete change from his previous view of God's providence. He begins to rebuke himself for his last observation, and at this time, the bible begins to impact his life immensely. Crusoe's decides to read the New Testament vigorously ashamed of his past. Observation of Friday's servitude becomes part of his activities, and he develops a different view of human beings (Defoe, 2010).

Mutineers and their ousted captain arrive on the island and find Crusoe. Their arrival challenges Crusoe further in his journey of faith. He works together with the captain to reclaim the shipwreck, and during their working period, he realizes how God had a great plan for him. The completeness of God's plan is apparent to him at this time. At this time, he sees himself to be playing a critical role in the work of providence. His take of governance reflects the maturity of his faith, which he has come to understand. Crusoe's quick offer of help to the mutineers makes him reflect on how God came to his aid too. It is the point he sees the will of providence over his life for the first time (Defoe, 2010).

Maturity of faith in God that Crusoe undergoes happens over time. He begins by rebelling against his family. During this period of his rebellion, Crusoe faces events that change his view of providence and repents. He comes across mutineers, and their disgraced captain and this meeting strengthen his faith in providence. Now has a strong belief in a God who attends to all his human needs, which awes him. He soon becomes a happy instrument of the work of providence. He feels indebted to the God he comes to know and understand and feels sorry for his past life. Crusoe's faith in the past began with fear after the shipwreck but ends up with a celebration of God and renewed confidence in Him. It remains as the guide and centrepiece of Crusoe's thoughts to the end. He begins by being rebellious and a non-believer. He is a sinner at that time. He faces challenges and experiences that shape his faith in God. It becomes the point of conversion and renewed hope for Robinson Crusoe.
