Discussion
Team Work
Within a working environment, the success of an organization depends heavily on the employees working to achieve the set objectives (Makikangas, Aunola & Seppala, 2016). In a nutshell, the sum of the parts must exceed the collective. In this regard, team-work is a crucial aspect if the nursery is to function optimally. However, for the collective to operate optimally and cohesively as a unit, every member within the organization must pull in the same direction while pulling their weight (Makikangas e.tal, 2016). I do possess the skills and team-work character to function within an environment that requires an individual to cooperate with colleagues.
I have previously worked with individuals with mental health and learning disabilities that cultivated important team-work virtues into me such as the patience required when communication with others. A sound grounding in listening is vital for team-work and maintaining good relations with other members of the team to maximize productivity (Asemota, 2015). During my stint as a support worker with Care Today Parallel, I also honed my skills of relating with others for a common goal as I worked with others in a team set up.
My past working within care homes ensures I have the practice as well as the skills learned to operate in a nursery home and manage others under my supervision. Having been under authority myself, I have the experience of knowing how to get the best from others as well as treating them with the respect and importance that motivates them to perform to optimum levels.
Communication
While working with others passing and receiving of information is key to the working of the whole organization. This process does not just involve precise and well-understood instruction to peers and juniors but also includes all the aspects of good communication such positive criticism and use of important nonverbal cues (Burgoon, Guerrero & Floyd, 2016). During my time working with Care Today Parallel, I learned how to communicate with individuals suffering from alcoholism and trying to recover. As stated, communicating with recovering alcoholics positively through constructive criticism always achieved the desired results as compared to stinging criticism that only dents the confidence that an individual possessed.
Good Listener
Being a good listener more so when in a position of responsibility builds a rapport with those you serve that allows for others to open up and speak about their troubles and challenges (Exposito, Costa & Agea, 2018). Listening is more of an art that one learns through practice. It also encompasses non verbal cues that encouraged the recipient to speak up like nodding your head along and not doing some other activity while the other person is speaking to you (Burgoon, Guerrero & Floyd, 2016). Maintaining eye contact also shows keenness to the speaker and a sense of empathy that encourages speech.
While stationed at the Seacroft Grange Residential Care Home, I improved my listening skills as a virtue. Individuals housed as at the care home found a listening ear in me and over time I honed the art as a productive tool of care homes. Working with individuals suffering from depression, I had to listen to long monologues in order to better understand their lives and be able to unravel factors that cause or aggravate the problem. Being able to understand the problem allowed me to determine the best approach with which to deal with the residents of the home care with a personal touch to it (Papageorgiou, & Loke, 2017).
Organization
An organized paperwork and format allows for seamless changes within a nursery/organization as successors or oversight committees can quickly study the workings and approaches employed (Papelino & Lawrence, 2015). Well organized work-stations also permit for quick responses to emergencies as records belonging to residents can be accessed with ease to look at their medical records or any other pertinent issue. During my posting as a support worker at Care Today Parallel, I had to plan the schedule of families and relatives of the day care residents to coincide with the most suitable times available.
Conclusion
Given the above provide qualities that I possess, I believe I am best placed to provide the best skill set to the nursery as its manager and position it in best standing to face the future. I have ingrained my skill set throughout my duties provided to me as I worked in both of those organizations. I believe I will add value to your organization.
