Directed by Patricia Cardoso, the Real women have curves is one of the most reviewed and well achieved Box offices HBO film in 2002. With America Ferrera as the staring, this film is based on a Mexican-American Playwright who was referred as Josefina Lopez. There are various issues that have been presented in this films. Like other films, Real Women have Curves is among the ones that have focused on gender socialization. This film has focused on women and some of the issues that they go through in the contemporary society. The main focus of the film is Ana also called America Ferrera. One of the quotes from the film that I agree with is that women are valued for serving men, sexuality, and education. According to Eat the Flan: Real Women Have Curves, it is true that most women are usually seen as objects that are supposed to serve men. Women have to perform different responsibilities for men. In the film, Carmen was not impressed when her daughter went to school on the last day instated of serving breakfast to men. It is after this situation that she told her that the ability to serve men fines who a woman. Also, women are valued for sexuality. Women are viewed to be important to society because of their sexual orientation (Marsiglia, Booth and Baldwin 49). In most cases, women are viewed to be of the weaker sex; hence, they are being taken advantage by men (Marsiglia, Booth and Baldwin 49). The other aspect is the women are valued for education. When a woman is educated, she becomes the most important aspect of society.

However, there are some elements that I disagree with in the film. One of the quotes that I disagree with is that women are defined by their ability to bear children (Launius 17). According to the film, Ana's mother claims that when she reached menopause, she considered herself as not being a woman. According to the source, eat the Flan: Real Women Have Curves, this concept is not true because women will start being regarded to be important even if she does not bore any child. The other quote that I disagree in this film is that women are proud of their bodies (Launius 17). This statement is not true because most women have doubts about themselves. Therefore, they require reassurance so that they can at least be proud of their bodies.

Conclusion

Concluding, Real Women have real curves is a film that has presented different issues that surrounds women in contemporary society. In this film, different ideas have been presented, and most of them relate to women. One of the issues is that women are valued by how they serve men. This statement is true because, if women served a man well, she would be respected. Also, women are valued because of their sexuality. However, there were some quotes in the film that I disagreed such as women, are defined by their ability to bear a child. This element is not true because some women have not borne any child, and they are stilled valued. Lastly, the quote that is disagreed with is that women are proud of their bodies, and they need constant reassurance.
