Introduction
The genitourinary system helps the body to eliminate wastes from the body and enable reproduction. There are conditions which limit the reproductive and excretion roles. The following situation explains some pertinent issues related to the genitourinary system.
The Urinary System
Control of Bladder
Some adults experience the need to get to the bathroom to urinate during sleep. This phenomenon is called nocturia and occurs when the bladder arouses the person sleeping to empty the components. Annie is experiencing a similar condition, although she has been unable to control her bladder at times. The situation is not caused by a full bladder only but acts as a sign and symptom of other diseases (Sengupta, Dutta & Krajewska-Kulak, 2016). Therefore, Annie should consult a doctor to diagnoses to ascertain the problem. Besides, she should limit the amount of fluid intake before going to sleep to avoid the frequent urge to urinate during sleep.
Water and the Functioning of the Urinary System
The urinary system plays an essential role in removing excess body fluids and mineral salts from the body. The kidney is responsible for the filtering process to eliminate excess substances and water. Water plays an essential function in the human urinal system. Adequate intake of water ensures the smooth functioning of the kidney and the urinary system in general (Rosdahl, Kowalski, & Wolters, 2017). Water facilitates the exchange of these excess substances through diffusion and active transport.
The Male Reproductive System
Sperm Count
Human sperm is sensitive to temperatures and vulnerable to extremes. The sperm cannot survive in higher temperature, and neither could they in colder temperatures. Therefore, there are situations which may render the human sperm count lower. Wearing tight and extremely warm underwear increase the level of heat in the testicles areas and therefore could contribute to a lower sperm count. Besides, the level of sperm count may be lower due to infections, diseases, hormonal imbalance, and abnormalities. Lower sperm count reduces the probability or ability to fertilize an ovum (Rosdahl et al., 2017).
Conception and Age
The need to have children is one of the most critical factors that contribute to the marriage. The ability to give birth depends on the strength of the man to produce healthy and sufficient sperm to fertilize the eggs. Based on the statistics of men fertility, men can get women pregnant until they are about sixty years old. For that reason, this case involving a 50 year old intending to marry a woman in the childbearing age is tenderable (Vidal, 2016). However, he should note that fertility reduces as people age because they experience lower semen volume and takes longer before fertilizing the egg.
The Female Reproductive System
Hormone Replacement Therapy
Surgical removal of the ovaries is called oophorectomy. The condition affects the female reproductive system because ovaries are responsible for estrogen secretion. The hormone plays a vital role to facilitate fucnt0ning of vital body organs, including the brain and the heart (Rosdahl et al., 2017). For that reason, it is recommendable for thirty-two years older woman to consider hormonal therapy after the surgical removal of her ovaries to counter the reduction in estrogen supply.
Menstrual Period
Experiencing menstruation for the first time is scary and confusing to young girls like the 12-year old Janie. The most critical aspect includes explaining to her that the period is part of being a woman. Janie should know that menstruation is a normal process which occurs in all adult women once a month. The periods may be preceded by mild to severe pain and depends on individuals (Vidal, 2016). Finally, Janie should understand that menstruation is a sign of health and a symbol of growth towards adulthood.
HIV and AIDS
Accidentally Piercing With a Needle
There is always a high risk of getting pierced by a used needle in a clinic setting. These objects present a peril because they carry microorganism, causing disease. The initial action to undertake in this case should involve administering the coworker with HIV post-exposure prophylaxis medication. I would explain to the worker that medicine is essential because it could help to prevent the development of HIV if the needle had one (Rosdahl et al., 2017). He should understand that the measure as a precautionary step and does not mean that he has contracted AIDS.
Conclusion
The analysis of those question explains important factors that expound on how the Genitourinary System works. Age and sperm count emerged as factors that affect the ability to reproduce. Besides, the intake of sufficient fluids promotes the wellbeing of the urinary system. In that manner, the essay demonstrates the connection between functionality and Genitourinary System disorders.
