How Problem Solving Has Assisted in Modern Policing

Problem-solving is an essential element in modern policing as it enables the police to give attention to the problems behind the incidents and not only the events. The problem-solving approach creates a positive impact on such issues that get targeted, and as a result, it is an effective way of dealing with crime. Problem-solving policing has assisted in the modern policing as it addresses specific problems while at the same time aiming to apply the evidence-based and rational analysis of the problem as well as the solutions. A good example is the Tackling Alcohol-related Street Crime (TASC) project (Leon, 2018). TASC was a multi-agency response set up as a result of disorders and violence related to alcohol in Cardiff. The intervention focused on the following eight significant areas. It focused on dialogue between the members of the licensed trade and the police, how to improve the door staff behavior and quality, bar staff training programme, trials to influence the practice and policy of licensing, the publication of crimes problems that are related to alcohol, and to support the victims of alcohol-related assaults (Leon, 2018).

Comparisons Between Traditional Models of Policing and Contemporary Policing Approaches

Traditional policing model slightly differs from the modern policing strategies, an example of community policing. Compared to community policing, the traditional method had a lesser interaction between the organization and the environment. Another difference is that conventional policing only responds to crime after its occurrence whereas the community policing is a rather preventive approach responding to a crime before it occurs (Weisburd et al., 2010). The reason behind this is because, in community policing, strategic reasoning is incorporated to assist in the prevention of crime. Another comparison between the two approaches is that in the traditional policing, there was the routine patrol by the police, an element that is today incorporated to have a place in community policing as these patrols get used at times in the deterring of crimes.

Legal Aspects That May Come Up at the Trial

At the trial, several legal issues may come up depending on the format of the case. The first one is adversarial which gets used in the adjudication of guilt or innocence. Here, there is the assumption that the open contest between the defense and the prosecution is more likely to reveal the truth (Neubauer & Fradella, 2018). The second aspect that may occur during a trial is inquisitorial. It entails the supervision of the investigation by an examining magistrate or judge who then conducts the prosecution. Another legal aspect during testing is that the jury or the judge may decide whether there is enough evidence provided by the crown prosecutor that is beyond doubt and that can be used to affirm that the accused is guilty (Neubauer & Fradella, 2018).
