Introduction

Through personal reflection, I have become an active and more involved learner. I have acquired knowledge and intelligence which include "linguistic, logical-mathematical, musical, spatial, bodily-kinesthetic, interpersonal, intrapersonal, naturalistic, and existential" (Simmons, 2009). At the same time, personal responsibility has made me an active and more involved learner. The intelligence and personal responsibility helps explore new ways to learn and can help influence me to learn on my own. As I result I feel that I have a personal responsibility towards myself and my academic work and that this responsibility has an overall effect on my life. No one likes to experience frustration or inability; however, every student must face frustration and failure to learn and try again.

Success, Wealth, happiness, social status, and power are the most sought after achievements in today's society. Even on a more personal and individual level, these defining factors play a major role in determining not only the direction of one's life, but in gauging the level of completion of one's life. In both childhood premonitions of the future, as well as the visualization and actualization of one's goal for the present, specific guidelines are set, an outline for the path of life is made. In my personal reflection, milestones such as college graduation, career success, financial success, love and family were set to guide my way to total achievement. However, when considering these vague and somewhat high standards, it is detrimental to acknowledge that personal responsibility is the absolute key factor in gaining and retaining any and all of life's expectations and goals (Simmons, 2009). Personal responsibility is the informal outline for personal success. In this informal outline, factors as preparation, effective time management, and accountability for one's actions, must be utilized in being personally responsible, and therefore leading to the overall goal of complete fulfillment.

The personal responsibility I have learnt that has made me became a more active and more involved learner has affected my personal meaning of life in three ways. The first way is that I have to always prepare (Carson, 2017). The only way to reach any level of success is to be prepared for all obstacles in my path. As many obstacles in life are far from predictable, it is vital that a plan is implemented because if any past failure was to be evaluated, it is highly likely that the cause for failure was being unprepared. This predetermined plan will aid in not only keeping me on track, but in the varying obstacles that arise. For college success, correct material, supplies, and personal involvement must be accounted for. This way when any obstacle does arise, such as a surprise exam, lengthy assignment, or the introduction of new material, I will be prepared to handle such tasks.

The second defining factor for personal responsibility, steams off of preparation, but is more specific as it is the aspect of effective time management (Carson, 2017). In life, distraction is a part of daily life, so aspects as planning and meeting deadlines, setting a schedule, and setting specific goals in a time frame is the only true way to be personally responsible. Being effective with time management will have the same outcome as being prepared in that it will only make success more easily obtainable. Part of time management, is setting and sticking to a schedule. The setting of a schedule is as important as other factors because it is what allows planning the goal, work toward that goal, and finally achievement of said goal.

The final defining factor, and quite possibly one of the most important factors is accountability (Carson, 2017). In order to reach a true level of personal responsibility, it is important to always be accountable for my actions. The only way to implement accountability is to be organized, to truly know where I lie in my path; to know and learn my resources, to be accountable for all the outcomes of my direction; to be committed, the ability to follow through with my set goals; and finally to manage my stress, to celebrate the completion of goals.

Conclusion

Preparation, effective time management, and accountability cannot be stressed enough, when discussing what I have learnt so far and the impact it has on my life. And in this same respect, personal responsibility cannot be stressed enough in regards to success. Success in any medium is achieved if, and only when personal responsibility is implemented in all circumstances.
