Introduction

Last year I turned 18, and that meant that I was ready to exercise my duty to vote and make important decisions. With the desire to make meaningful choices that my mother country, Italy asked to make, I developed the desire to acquire what information regarding what was happening all around the world. Many people talk about days and events that transformed the world in seconds in modern times. The Glasgow airport attack is without a doubt accredited as being such a day. The consequential political hysteria grabbed my attention and having to watch what happened on that day; I developed a desire to study politics on an international scale. The attack caused many questions about the effect of both the future and the present western foreign policy, and these vital issues led me to view the world in a new light. I have had the opportunity to travel around the world thanks to my parents. The chance to go around the world made me realise the incredible attractiveness of working together and building a peaceful equilibrium between the people and countries.

My early education in English, French, Spanish and Italian prepared me well for studying international relations. It was during my years of study that I received a comprehensive training, learning everything from politics to mathematics and gaining better grades in every subject. My unmatched knowledge of so many subjects made me stand out when it came to conversing with people from many distinct backgrounds in the course of my chosen career. Other than studying languages, I have carried out research work on the French surrealist Breton where I learned extensively the principles of politician Marx and writer Rimbaud whose visions were to change the world and deeply connect cultures. To prepare myself for the international political world, I have also investigated the figure of J.B priestly and had an opportunity to analyse most of his radio broadcasts. Within academics, I have challenged myself to success as much as my ability can push me, to better myself both as an individual and as a student.

The study of philosophy revealed to me the need for morality in political actions, and it was during an encounter with philosopher that I discovered the figures of Carl Marx who had the vision to transform people lives. I intend to use the knowledge and skills gained as a student to enter organisations like UN among others that fight for human rights. Outside the classroom, I have participated in many activities that have exposed me in a global perspective. Two years ago, I was able to participate in a community service program to assist in rebuilding a rural community. Another eye-opening experience was volunteering at the previous parish summer. I got a chance to go to the 'tenderloin' of Brancaccio, an area of Sicily marked with high criminal activities. These experiences though broad, have been fundamental in the development of leadership skills and personal independence as well as incite my passion for working in international communities.

Conclusion

The rigour of my academics had directed me to apply for three Scottish Universities; Edinburgh, Glasgow and St. Andrews. I choose these universities because I believe they will provide me with an opportunity to join and champion the international relation team at a global level. With an intention to excel not only in academics but in attaining an international understanding, I believe the University of St. Andrew, Edinburgh, and Glasgow will present me with a platform to interact with global leaders. Other than meeting international leaders, a chance to pursue international relations at these universities will providing me with more than enough knowledge to broaden my perspective by reasons of attending such high standing universities.
