What is meant by the term "Nixonomics," including wage and price controls? What was the overall effect of Nixon's economic policies on the United States? Explain.
Nixonomics meant the period of imposing a 90-day freeze on wages and prices of products for the purpose of countering inflation. The period of this new policy was after the second world war, and it was the first time they enacted the control of wages and prices. The effect of Nixon's economic policy was that it agreed with the Keynesian ideologies of the economy that it was able to eliminate recession in the nation.
What was "Watergate" and how did it affect U.S. politics? Explain.
Watergate was when five men forced entry into the Watergate complex which was the headquarters of Democratic National Committee with the intentions of botching operations meant to spark a chain of event that would later see the resignation of Richard Nixon. Watergate scandal led to the passing of laws for election reforms, and the Congress is enacting a plan to clean up political practices.
Describe Nixon's China Policy. What was its significance to the Cold War?
Nixon's China policy led to the ending of 25 years of no communication and diplomatic ties that had existed amid these China and US. The seven-day visit was the critical phase to standardizing relations between the US and China. He called for indirect assistance to the American allies in the cold war where he normalized relations with the communist people of China.
What was the energy crisis? How did it come about and what was the U.S. response to it? Discuss.
Energy crisis came along in the sector of oil which was a direct consequence of the production peak in the US starting in late 1960. The members of OPEC (Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting countries) imposed oil embargo that led to shortages in fuel and exorbitant prices witnessed throughout 1970. It contributed to a deep global recession. The US negotiated for troop withdrawal of Israeli troops hence lifting oil embargo.
What was the Iranian Hostage crisis? How did this crisis reveal the foreign policy weakness of the Carter administration? Describe the circumstances surrounding the release of the hostages. What are some possible lessons that the United States could learn from this experience? Explain.
The Iranian Hostage crisis was the period of diplomatic standoff happening amongst Iran and the US. They held 52 American diplomats and citizens captives after Iranian college students reinforced the Iranian revolution seized over US embassy in Tehran. Negotiations between the US government and the Iranian government led to the crisis end.
