To be an educational leader is one of the greatest challenges as it involves carrying out a number of roles in order to achieve the objectives. One has to motivate the students they are leading, evaluate the performance of teachers, take part in educational forums and participate in making educational related policies, building effective teams as well as setting education standards. It involves guiding students, teachers as well as parents towards achieving their objectives. Leading students is being a great extent enlisting their talents and helping them achieves their full potential. It is more of a mentoring process since the leader in this case I aiming at helping the young boys and girls become what they aspire to be in the future (Coleman & Glover, 2010; Reinhartz & Beach, 2009). On the other hand, leading teachers should be a motivational role. Teachers are workers at the learning institution who need to be inspired so that they can be productive in their work. Different learning institutions have varying issues and problems. The type of leadership that one adapts depends on the situations prevalent at the organization or institution which they are leading. Therefore, for the different schools, different type of leadership can be applied (Hale & Dunlap, 2010). However, since the field of education has so much in common, it means that there are many situations that are similar and they need a certain type of leadership.

Role of an educational leader

Slide Three

The other roles that I will be playing as an education leader would be to solve problem that can affect the system. As a leader, it is my role to solve problems. I will also be analyzing data that is related to students. This will include their performance per subject as well as overwll performance. This will help me in making decisions in regard to what can be done to improve their performance. Further, I will be taking part in budget creation and implementation, as this ensures that activities are moving as per expectations. Design and implementation of policies will be another important role for me as an education leader. Education is highly dynamic and it is prone to many changes. They are the kind of changes that are beyond the internal control of the institutions. Therefore, they will affect the learning process and the education system at large based on the manner with which leaders respond to them (Reeves,2009). In other words, if the response is not fit for the situation, it means that the decisions that will follow might have a negative effect on the system. On the other hand, if the response is positive, the impact will be of value to education.

I will also be helping the people I lead to achieve their educational goals. This would include helping the teachers realize their full potential in offering education to students as well as assisting them in any other areas as per their needs. In addition, I would want any student who experiences my leadership to be a success story. My objective is to touch the lives of those young and boys and help them become the people they always wish to emulate. Further, I wish to offer an unprecedented kind of leadership to parents such that they will walk the journey with the students and the teachers towards achieving the educational common goals. I realize that without the help of teachers, it would be difficult to lead students. Therefore, in my leadership, I will be seeking the full cooperation of teachers. Also, as an education leader, I want the learning institutions to have access to any facilities that they may need for their success.

Requirements of an educational leader

A creative leader is able to craft good, workable solutions and also make the best decisions. They should be confident. This means that they should not be afraid of facing situations and challenges. Additionally, a leader ought to be self-driven. They should have the drive to achieve the set goals and objectives. This acts as their motive. The leader should also be courageous. They should not fear or back down in case they face challenges. A leader also needs intelligence that will help him to understand various situations and also analyze alternatives for decision making. Intelligence also increases the ability of the leader to solve problems. In addition, a leader should be honesty. They should be able to win the trust of their followers by being truthful. This makes the followers to have confidence with him. Confidence for the leader gives him brevity to face situations. With confidence and courage, I will not be pinned down by challenges or situations that tend to bar me from achieving my objectives. As a leader, one is expected to guide the others on what they should do and the direction they should follow (Wong, 2008). Leaders ought to be on the front line at all times in showing direction. I will have to understand the education curriculum since this is the only way I will in a better position to create and implement relevant policies. When I have an understanding of the curriculum, I will know the areas that might need improvement. This will include understanding the best education models. As an educational leader I will be required to understand the models, techniques, processes and structures of the education system. They also need to know the procedures that are followed in various activities. This way, I will be in a position to advice and give directions to the teachers. I will also understand students and the things that help them improve their performance. I will also know the best ways to improve goals achievement. Further, I should understand the best ways to engage and motivate staffs and students. As such, I will need to be up to date with the most innovative techniques. As an educational leader, I will also be a coach. I will be showing students the way they need to follow for them to achieve their career dreams. It should be noted that I will be leading different types of students who have varying aspirations and dreams. Therefore, I should be in a position to coach each of them as per their ambitions. Probably, I will be required to apply different kind of leadership for various students. The fact that students have their challenges which are specific to each of them also means that when assisting them individually, I will need to change my style based on the specific case I am handling. The day to day activities in the learning institutions may also be different and hence require a leader who can offer leadership based on the specific day or activities. I believe that this is the best leadership style for me as an educational leader.

My style of leadership will be situational as this will align well with management. Despite being a leader, I would want to be a manager as well. The reason as to why I have chosen this kind of leadership is that I believe it is the best suited for the education systems of today. The world is highly dynamic and so are the learning institutions. They are prone to many changes which if not well responded to, the ramifications can be dire to the system. Further, this type of leadership is often referred to as micro-management (Blanchard, Zigarmi & Zigarmi,2013). This is because the leader is expected to closely monitor and supervise the performance of each member of the organization (Goldsmith & Lyons, 2011). I would want to closely follow up on the performance of each student in the institution. In the event that there is any change in their results, I would want to know firsthand so that I can enquire the problem in case the change is negative and also understand the reason incase the change is positive.

What I will be doing as a leader

Slide Eleven

I will be in a position to help the students maintain an upward performance since I will understand the reasons for their improvements and help retain such instances (Tomlinson, 2004). On the other hand, I will know the reasons for their decreased performances and hence can find the best possible solutions to assist them improve. For the teachers, I would want to closely monitor their productivity as well to ensure that they are offering the best possible services to students and parents. By this, I can easily determine the motivations they may need to better their performance. My duty will be to help students develop talents and also assist them to achieve their aspirations. To do this, I will need to stay with them so that I can know them better. I should also offer inspiration to both teachers and students. They will be looking up on me for motivation and hence I should serve this purpose to the best of my capabilities. Finally, I will need to help the entire institution achieve the educational goals. My leadership style should yield results.
