Epidemiological Rationale for Hand Washing within the Community

Research has shown that there is an increase in illnesses among the community that are connected to the young people and their standard of living. It was done by first presenting the products that can be used for hand washing which are soap, water, and alcohol-based hand sanitizer. The presentation emphasized on when and how one is supposed to wash their hands. According to World Health Organization (2014), hand washing with soap and water helps to reduce diarrheal diseases and the risk of respiratory infections up to 50%. Nearly half of the people infected are usually children below 18 years. It is caused by lack of proper awareness by the community.

Proposed Community Teaching

The presentation starts by showing a short video of a family washing their hands with soap and water and another family washing with the alcohol-based sanitizer. It addresses the community on how to wash their hands with the different products. It also educates the community on when to wash their hands either before or after coming into contact with people, surfaces, and objects. This presentation encouraged the community to practice hand washing which limits the transfer of viruses and bacteria. There will be a handout that provides assistance and a sense of direction to the people. The community will engage in discussions about the infections and any questions arising. Language barriers will be addressed by giving the lesson in their respective ethnic languages.

The effectiveness of the teaching experience can be done by giving out a verbal quiz to gauge if the information was well presented. If the quiz is well answered, then the information provided was well grasped. The meeting is concluded with a vote of thanks from the members of the community.
