Introduction
The United States is one of the best countries in the world, regarding employment, human development index, and child mortality rate among other things. The country I am from is in Africa, and it is called Angola. I currently reside in the United States, and there are many differences between my country and the United States. My life in the United States is different from my experience in Angola in many ways, but for this paper, I shall choose three main differences between these two countries. The differences that I will focus on are; poverty, language, and education. When it comes to these three issues, there are many differences between these two countries which I have noticed since I moved to the United States.
Poverty
The first difference between the United States and Angola is poverty. Angola is an emerging country compared to the United States. An indicator of the poverty in my country is that the majority of people in my country live in poverty; they live on less than two dollars a day. When it comes to employment the United States has fewer unemployed people than Angola, in Angola many people are unemployed, and job opportunities are scarce. Many people have jobs in the informal sectors, and the majority rely on subsistence farming. When you compare this to the United States, you will see a huge difference because in the United States many citizens are in the workforce. The healthcare system is another area where poverty is rampant in Angola. In the United States, life expectancy rate is high, and infant mortality rates are low compared to Angola which has one of the highest infant mortality rates in the world and the lowest life expectancies.
Language
In my country Angola the national language is Portuguese with other Bantu languages, in the United States, the language spoken is English. Portuguese was adopted because it was the language of our colonizer; Portugal colonized our country. The difference in language arises because of the different colonizers for each country, for example, the United States was a colony of Britain, and the colonists of the United States adopted the language of their colonizers. Another difference in language comes in because in my country there are various ethnic groups each with its ethnic language, for example, native languages such as Kikongo, Umbundu, and Kwanyama to mention a few are spoken in Angola. The difference arises because in the United States almost everyone you encounter speaks only English.
Education
The education sector of these two countries is another area where you notice significant differences. In my country Angola, the education sector is poorly financed, there is a lack of buildings and teachers and education is not wholly free for all. In the United States, the education sector is funded well with a majority of children having access to schools, and there is no shortage of teachers and materials for teaching. Teachers in Angola are underpaid and inadequately trained; in the United States teachers are very well paid. Children in Angola are not allowed to attend school because they have to help in raising income for the family, in the United States child employment is not, and the government is, and offenders are arrested if caught. Schools building in Angola are poorly built, and in some areas, children are taught under trees due to a lack of buildings, in the United States, the school buildings are well developed with adequate infrastructure to cater for the students who enroll for classes.
