Introduction
Study of media is important since it is part of the everyday life of children; recent developments in technology have had children involved in several media forms as they grow. The research that I conducted was about video games. Video games either boost the thinking of the capacity of a child or destroy the child's moral life. Through critical thoughts involved in playing games, children are in a position to exercise their mind through thoughts; therefore, the mind develops properly. On the other hand, an immoral organization in video games is bound to make children adapt immoral behavior as they grow.
The research question was aimed at identifying if the appearance of women in video games has been sexualized. The research, therefore, was aimed at accessing the clothing of women involved in the production of video games. There were those who were dressed in clothing that covered the entire body as others had clothing covering some specific parts. The research was also designed to check on the general physique such as breast size and parts of the body that were exaggerated. The front parts and back parts of women in the video games were to be involved in the research.
The research was based on one main question; "Are female characters changing to become more sexualized?" The research was therefore conducted to have a look at the videos games which have been developed since the 1990s. The findings were divided into groups that included; those from most popular sites, those with higher ratings, those viewed in five minutes, targeted female in the games and levels of equalization in videos. The groups which were derived from the results were then used to interpret the phenomena.
The results showed that sexuality in video games had been higher in the past 33 years, this act has increased with recent years. The videos that had higher cases of sexuality were viewed more than those that did not have. Issues such as some parts of the body being exposed made the views to be higher. The type of video game was also seen to be a contributing factor to more video games being views than others. These results can find use in dealing with the factors that affect the mental development of a child.
Children are affected by the environment as they grow; most of them tend to copy the lifestyles of people that they encounter in their lives as they grow. Video games are part of the environmental triggers that make the mind to think in a certain way. For the topic of discussion, video games make children copy certain behaviors such as the behavior of bare skin clothing. They are always required to interact with things that make them grow righteously. The video games with sexuality on women cannot serve as a guide to them.
Ways in which video games affect children include behavior, attitudes, and beliefs. Children may adopt a certain dressing code because they saw it in a video game. They may also develop certain negative attitudes towards female dressing code and conduct. Some may also derive beliefs that some things must be achieved through certain dress codes.
Conclusion
In conclusion, there is a need to understand that things that children face as they grow are bound to develop inside their minds, therefore, parents and guardians should regulate their children to have a better future.
