Introduction
Throughout his presidential campaign, president Trump emphasized his intention to build a physical wall between the Mexico-US borders. He was motivated by the purpose to decrease illegal immigration that was highly apparent in the country and stated that the wall would further aid in the reduction of drug cartels in America. Trump stated that the physical border separation would assist in mitigating drug smuggling in the country and thereby reducing the negative implication of the activity. The lessening in the number of unlawful immigrants, according to the president, would help in reducing unemployment rates in the country as jobs would be freed upon the decrease of the foreigners. Trump highlighted that he was also inspired by the objective to safeguard the country and redefine the country to achieve a state that would prioritize the needs of its citizens, a plan that was projected to be realized by the border wall. However, his plans received controversial receptions with many people doubting the degree of the attainability of his strategies and a large part of the populace opposing the technique. Since the plan was commenced, it has exhibited failures such as the funding options. During the campaign, Tramp claimed that the Mexican government would pay for the construction of the wall. However, the neighboring country refuted the claims and stated that it would not fund the process. Hence it showed that the plan was faced with a lot of uncertainty and would impose a great burden on the citizens. Trump's border wall is a flawed concept; it will be ineffective, costly, have unintended consequences, hurt the economy, and increase conflict.
The construction of the physical border will not be efficacious in eradicating smuggling in the country. Drug smugglers have constantly been devising ways to traffic drugs from Mexico to the US, and the construction of the wall has a low probability of combating the measures. For instance, the traffickers can use ladders to cross the wall or utilize drones that pass easily over the fence. The largest cartels founded by El Chapo dug tunnels that were effective in smuggling drugs into the country undetected. The underground passageways upon discovery were identified to have technological upgrades such as well-structured ventilation, and they incorporated electricity that eased the smuggling procedures. The drug dealers have heightened the employment of drainage structures that are interlinked between the two countries and other states to transfer drugs and people. Other techniques entail the use of waterways that are usually hard to trace. Individuals and the illegal drugs can be conveyed from one place to the next in the disguise of cargos. The California Coast is a highly potential destination for such kind of strategies, and it would be impossible to track the measures as it would be highly time-consuming and would require injection of a vast number of taxpayers' financial resources in the activity.
Regarding the objective to free more employment opportunities for the American citizens, the construction of the wall would be highly ineffective in the realization of the goal. Research and national statistics provide insubstantial proof that the immigrants occupy significant occupations that would have otherwise been filled by America's citizens by birth. The illegal immigrants tend to acquire employment in physically hard labor that the US citizens show no interest in. As such, their presence in the country has no significant influence on the trends in wages in the nations as allegedly claimed. Their highest competition is the low-skilled individuals in the country as they also strive to get low-income jobs due to their relaxation in academic qualifications. The hardest jobs in the country with low compensations such as in the fish cutting industry are usually filled with illegal immigrants as the citizens are usually opposed to working in the areas. Therefore, reduction in the number of illegal immigrants caused by the erection of the wall and enaction of strict immigration legislation will not have any substantial positive outcomes regarding the creation of more employment opportunities for American citizens. Construction of the wall will further be ineffectual in mitigating the crime rates in the country that are usually attributed to the illegal immigrants. Research depicts that a vast degree of homicides committed in the country is caused by American citizens. Trump's strategies in the reduction of illegal immigrants have incorporated the utilization of unspecialized police taskforce; a move that would aggravate crime rates in the country. The increased scrutiny by the police may cause the development of mistrust with the citizens and may result in the individuals refraining from informing the police of the occurrence of unlawful activities. Hence, it will increase the rate of unpunished crimes which has the corresponding effect of promoting criminal activities.
Construction of the border wall is highly expensive and is projected to cost more than the projected budget of over twenty billion dollars. The financial resources invested would have otherwise been used in the development of essential sectors of the economy such as healthcare. The project will also bear a high political cost. The construction of the wall has the effect of cutting off the neighboring communities, and the possibility of erecting a similar structure on the northern side will further separate the nation from other countries such as Canada. The governments of the other countries are opposed to the idea and will result in the creation of a hostile environment between the countries. With the increasing possibility of the second cold war, the country may lack allies to fend off the threats caused by the rival nations of China and Russia. Moreover, the building of president Trump's border wall will cause unintended negative implication on the ecological composition of the route the construction will follow. The pathway is comprised of waterbodies, mountains, and forests and it will obstruct the living things found on the route. The wall will inhibit the natural habitat of wildlife by barricading migration routes and hindering the acquisition of essential materials such as food and water that are usually found on the opposite sides of the border. For instance, a species such as the Jaguars will be adversely affected as its preys are found on a vast geographical area that would be obstructed by Trump's wall. Consequently, the subsequent unfavorable outcome will result in a reduction in biodiversity and is projected to lead to a catastrophic situation in the lives of the affected organisms. The project is also stipulated to overlook a lot of environmental legislation. Hence, it is estimated to cause vast negative implications on the environment. For example, the pollution that will be caused in the execution of the plan such as noise pollution will cause adverse implications on the wildlife in the areas and may lead to their deaths. The reduction in the population is a threatening factor to the sustainability of the entire wildlife populace in the affected regions.
The construction of the wall will inevitably hurt the economy of the country and the affected regions. The reduction in the number of immigrants in the country will affect productivity in the country due to the constantly decreasing number of working people in the country. The number of citizens of the country by birth is reducing while the aging population increases. Therefore, it creates the problem of escalating dependability ratio which translates to a failing economy. The prevailing number of the percentage of immigrants in the workforce is about sixteen percent, and they are estimated to have the heightened surge in the labor force in the future. The foreigners working in the country are fundamental in the success of the economy and diminishing the number creates the challenge of a heightened burden on the native-born Americans. Drop in the number of working foreigners in the country signifies a reduction in the source of revenue for the government that was previously attained from taxation on their salaries. Hence, owing to the increasing number of aging populations, the government cost of taking care of the populace through measures such as security care will heighten. The resulting outcome entails more taxation on the US citizens which harms the economy. Moreover, the refusal of the Mexican government to fund the construction of the wall made Trump impose policies to retrieve the money from remittances from the Mexicans working in the country and impose heightened tariffs on Mexican goods. The move will cause an increase in the cost of such products, and the burden will be transferred to the taxpayers in the US. It would also impact trade between the country and Mexico and also other nations such as Canada and the effect entails a decline in the growth of America's economy.
The construction of the physical border wall will increase the conflict between America and Mexico. The government of Mexico has projected concerns and refused to pay for the projects as previously claimed by Trump. The country has devised strategies to counter the escalated harsh policies imposed by the American's president and have shown interest in increasing trade with China to ensure growth in the country's economy. The move is highly unfavorable to the US due to the ongoing tension between the country and China caused by the emerging second cold war. Moreover, the wall will escalate cultural conflict since it will lessen cooperation between the individual in the two countries. There is also the possibility of the affected countries countering the measures by imposing harsh policies of their own such as limiting movement of the native-born Americans in their countries; a move that would result in the heightened division which is unfavorable regarding security. The wall will further escalate the conflict between Republicans and Democrats in the country. The two parties have opposed perception on the projects and heightening disagreement between the two may result in negative implications such as delays in decision-making processes in government offices that adversely impact the country.
Conclusion
In conclusion, president Trump's border wall is a flawed concept since it has high probabilities of ineffectiveness. The proposed aims of the construction of the wall are inefficacious as there are no plausible justifications of their achievements. For instance, the purpose of reducing smuggling by the erection of the fence is inhibited by the techniques used by the drug traffickers. They employ measures such as the use of drones of or underground tunnels that would not be obstructed by the wall. The strategy would also be ineffectual in increasing employment opportunities for the native-born Americans as research shows that the immigrants occupy jobs that the citizens show no interest in such as occupations in the fish cutting industry. The construction of the wall is costly and will cause financial and political cost. The monetary resources that would be invested in the process are substantially high and would have otherwise been used in the growth of other sectors of the economy. The project is one-sided as the Mexican regime has projected opposition towards it. Hence, it will cause a political rift between the two countries which is unfavorable to both nations. Moreover, Trump's wall will cause unintended adverse impacts such as obstruction of the ecological composition in the pathway of the physical border. Wildlife and plants will be affected as their source of food and water, and the wall will negatively impact their migration routes. The overlooking of environmental policies in the construction of the border will further c...
