The UK mobile industry is one of the most competitive industries in the country due to increased demand for more innovative mobile devices. The introduction of the superfast Fourth Generation Networks (4G) broadband has greatly increased smartphone ownership in the country, due to its ability to provide faster online access, with the number of users doubling from 25% to 45% between 2012 and 2016 (Ofcom, 2017). Smartphones also come with a wide repertoire of features that appeal to both the young and the old including superior camera features, large storage, and features such as fingerprints. A survey by Euromonitor (2017) find that, more than 60% of UK adults use their smartphones to take photos, with the number rising even higher in the young population aged between 16-24 years old, with an estimated 89% using their phones to take selfies.

Mobile competition landscape in the UK

There are many players in the UK mobile industry, all competing for higher growth and larger market share. Apple Computers continues to lead the UK mobile industry to its baffling innovations of its series of iPhones, with the enjoying over 46% of total market share. Samsung Inc. follows closely with 32% market share. Other mobile manufacturers including HTC, Sony, and Nokia share the remaining percentage of the market (Statistica, 2017).

Job strategy jobs offered in the UK mobile industry

The UK mobile industry offers various strategy jobs in various fields that require different levels of qualifications. The offering include Business Development Executive position at Apple, which requires an outstanding and self-driven individual to conduct analysis with the aim of driving innovation in the consumer segments of the different sales channels. Another strategy position is that of a Mobile Analyst at LG, requiring a candidate with a degree in business, law, or technology-related fields, who has excellent attention to detail and motivated to succeed to help improve efficiency at the organization. Companies such as Samsung and Vodafone also offer strategy jobs in Senior Management and Strategy Optimization, which require a charismatic and ambitious individual, with a degree in management or an equivalent, to channel performance optimization at the company (Indeed, 2017).

The most interesting thing I have learned about strategy jobs

I have learned that the strategy job position demands for a leader, who has the ability to leader teams and improve organizational performance. All the jobs listed require a candidate that possesses a set of inter-personal skills to create and maintain good relations with teams, as well as to inspire and motivate them to succeed. The leader in question needs not only to be visionary and ambitious but also willing to take on challenges and self-driven to achieve desired results. I believe that this particular requirement is crucial to the success of mobile companies because technology is ever-changing and so are customer demands for new mobile products. Therefore, having a leader that can create a shared vision and motivate teams can help spur innovation, leading to greater success. I intend to prepare myself for job opportunities in this industry by completing my degree and by engaging in relevant training and professional development forums.
