Fox News also referred to as Fox News Channel is a basic cable and satellite news TV channel found in the US. It is under the ownership of the Fox Entertainment Group which is a subsidiary of the 21st Century Fox. The channel was established by Rupert Murdoch who sought the services of Roger Ailes as the pioneer chief executive officer. The channel launched in 1996 to millions of cable subscribers. Moreover, it grew toward the end of the 1990s and 2000s, becoming a major cable news network in the US. Murdoch is still the chairman and acting chief executive officer of Fox News. However, the company has had to contend with some problems over the recent past (Chokshi, 2017). Key among these problems is an allegation of racial discrimination.

In this case, two black women in the Bronx filed a lawsuit in State Supreme Court holding that they were taken through top-down racial harassment (Chokshi, 2017). It happened in the payroll department of Fox News and was perpetrated by Judith Slater who has been the company's comptroller for long. The two women including Tichaona Brown and Tabresa Wright accused Slater of making some racially instigated comments. The two are suing Slater and the company, claiming that management did little to tackle the behavior, which established a hostile work environment resulting in severe and widespread discrimination and harassment (Chokshi, 2017).

To address this issue, it would be important to determine the extent of the problem. The views of the employees must be sought regarding their experiences with the company management and colleagues. One research variable from the problem would establish whether any employee has experienced racial discrimination in the enterprise. Getting the number of employees who have experienced racial discrimination will provide insight into the extent of the problem and the necessary steps that must be adopted to end the vice.

The best method of collecting this data would be through a questionnaire survey. It is attributed to the fact that this approach is: practical; large quantities of information can be gathered from a large number of employees within a short time span and in a cost effective manner. It can be conducted by the researcher with limited impact on its validity and reliability; the responses can be quick and quantified with ease; results can be evaluated in a scientific and objective manner. Finally, upon quantification of data, it could be used to make comparisons and contrast other studies and help in measuring change (Collins, 2010). Most important is that this method is confidential. It is not easy to know who wrote what. Questions would include: whether or not one has been racially discriminated in the company; by whom; when; for what reasons; how was it done; what did they do; and what do they think should be done to bring the practice to a stop.

Different methods can be used to establish whether data collection process would generate reliable and valid data. The retest method can be used to determine whether the use of questionnaire survey was safe (Collins, 2010). Here, the same test would be given to the same people after a period of time. The test's reliability can then be determined by analyzing the consistency of the responses found between the two tests. If the research gets similar results on the two tests, it means that the reliability coefficient would stand at 1.00. In most cases, the correlation of determinations across time would be less than accurate as a result of difference experiences and views experienced by respondents from the date of the original test. This method is a simple, open way of establishing reliability. To determine validity, criterion-related validity can be employed. This approach focuses on detecting the presence or lack of one or more criteria seen to represent great views or traits. The content validity method can also be used (Collins, 2010). This process determines the extent to which the test items represent the universe of the thing being measured.

It is evident that there is racial discrimination at Fox News. In the same vein, this practice could pose adverse effects if it is left unaddressed. The ability to tackle racial discrimination and ensure that workplace diversity is managed might be a major asset for any organization. Fox News can use quantitative studies and questionnaire surveys, in particular, the extent of the problem. Organizations which integrate and promote diversity are bound to benefit at the end. Some of the benefits will include increased productivity and higher levels of employee retention. As a matter of fact, being in a position to manage diversity in an efficient manner and reducing discrimination is a major organizational concern. The main reason for this is its impact on the attitudes and beliefs of the employees which largely affects employee behavior.
